Find Your Routers Login Credentials
For users who dont normally log into their router, you firstly need to be able to find and use the login credentials of your router. This is different to the Wi-Fi SSID/username and password you enter to actually connect to the router and start using the internet. The login credentials to actually access the routers options are different, but they are listed alongside the Wi-Fi name/password on a sticker someone on the router.
Something like this:
If you dont have direct access to the router, then you can Google your router make and model if you know it, or perhaps your ISP and router, and it should be possible to find your router login and admin/password, as long as they havent been changed from the defaults.
Here are links to some commonly used login credentials for popular ISPs in the major English speaking countries:
- America Comcast/Xfinity defaults are username/password, see here and here, Verizon here, AT& T here. Sometimes the password is password or password1 other times it is a unique value like the serial number of the router, in which youll need physical access to get it.
- UK Click the links for common default login details for BT, Virgin Media, Sky, TalkTalk, Plusnet
- Canada Click the links for Bell, Shaw, Telus and Rogers common router login details.
- Australia Click the links for Telstra, Optus and TPG router login details.

How To Block Adults Websites On My Router: The Basics
Before we get into the particulars of different routers, lets go over some of the basic steps involved in blocking websites on your wifi router.
Here are the basic steps you need to take:
The first step is to open your web browser and type in the IP address of your router. This is the address that you will use to access your routers settings. Your IP address acts as your routers unique identifier, and you can find it on a sticker on the back of your router.
Once you have typed in your routers IP address, you will need to log in to your routers settings. This is where you will be able to change your routers settings, including the websites that you want to block.
Now that you are logged in to your routers settings, you will need to find the website blocking tool. This is usually a feature that is built into most routers.
If your router doesnt have a built-in website blocking tool, dont worry! Well show you how to use alternative methods in the next section.
Now that you have found the website blocking tool, its time to enter the websites that you want to block. You can either enter specific website addresses, or you can block entire categories of websites.

If needed you can use the allowed and blocked filter list of Windows 10 to block certain WiFi networks or all unknown WiFi networks.
This also allows restricting the PC to connect to certain permitted WiFi access points and blocking any connection to other devices or hotspots.
Here we show you how to block WiFi signals using different CMD commands that edit Windows 10 filter lists for allowed and blocked networks.

How Can I Stop Devices Using Sky Wi
There are many reasons to block a specific device from using your Sky Wi-Fi: perhaps the kids are refusing to put down their smartphones at the dinner table maybe your significant other has developed an all-consuming Fortnite addiction or it could be that youre just a Machiavellian genius who wants to watch the world burn. Whatever the rationale, heres how to stop devices using Sky Wi-Fi.
The process is fiddly, but it should only take a couple of minutes to have the Wi-Fi all to yourself.
First, type 192.168.0.1 into your browsers address bar, which will take you to the Sky settings page. A pop-up will appear asking for your username and password . Once youre through this Fort Knox-level security, click on the Advanced tab. Click LAN IP Setup on the lower horizontal menu.Scroll down to the Address Reservation section and click the Add button. This will bring up a table of all of the devices connected to your home network. Mac Filtering Asus Router
If it talks on your network, wireless networks included, it has a unique MAC address that never changes.
On an ASUS router, you have two options for using MAC filtering.
- Accept mode is a whitelist. You specify which devices are allowed to connect. Everyone else is blocked.
- Reject mode is a blacklist. You specify which devices are not allowed to connect. Everyone else can use the network.
A whitelist is the most secure, but it requires more hands-on management, and you need to have a comprehensive tally of all the devices that connect to your wireless router. If you forget somethinga Blu-ray player, a thermostat, or a webcam, for examplethen it wont work.
If its been a while since you configured your MAC filtering whitelist and youre having trouble with a new device, its easy to forget the extra step of adding the new MAC address to your filtering rules. Personally, I recommend a whitelist for a separate band that you set up for kids or frequent visitors. This can be used instead of or in addition to a wireless guest network.
Im not sure what youd use a blacklist for that you cant also do with a password from a security standpoint. For parental controls, a blacklist can help you allow internet access on a laptop but not on a gaming console, I guess?
Mac Filtering: Block Devices On Your Wireless Network
Wireless MAC filtering lets you block devices from your network or create a whitelist for allowed devices that can connect to the internet.
MAC filtering is your answer if you want to prevent unknown devices from connecting to your wireless router. A MAC address is a unique physical address assigned to every network interface or NIC on your device. It enables your device to communicate on your home or business network. This includes your computer, tablet, phone, Amazon Echo, Xbox, and even your washing machineif it connects to your network.

Block Devices At Certain Times
If you want to block certain devices at a certain time, then you will have to use the parental controls of your router, if it allows you this possibility. Today many home routers have time-based parental control functionality, this means that at a certain time we will be blocking Internet access from a certain device. Even if you are connected to the local home network via cable or WiFi, you will not be able to go online because parental control prevents it.
In the case of ASUS and AVM we have parental control based on time and also on content, but what interests us is configuring parental control based on time in order to allow connected devices at a certain time, and block them at a different time. To do this, it is necessary to enter the router with administrator permissions and follow these steps in general:
When we have applied the profile, if we are out of hours then we will not have an Internet connection, although we do have the possibility of communicating through the local home network, so we must bear in mind that parental control allows or blocks access to Internet but not to the local network.
Other Ways To Block A Device On A Network
It should be said that different routers work in different ways, and have different ways of restricting access for devices. Some routers are also easier to use than others, and you might not even need to go the length of MAC Filtering to block devices. There can be different ways of achieving the same outcome.
Here are some other options for blocking devices on a home network, or at least restricting access:
Method #1 Change Wi-Fi password To block access for unwanted devices. Browse around the menus to find the place where you change your password. This may be under Wireless Settings/Security/Advanced, or there may be a specific option/button to change password. Make sure you also change the router login admin/password as well though, to stop the blocked user gaining control of the router.
Method #2 Disable Dual Band Wi-Fi A variation on option 1. If your router is broadcasting both a 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz signal, and you can identify by the MAC address which devices you want to remove, you can simply disable the band its on, and only give the password for the other remaining band to the devices you want to allow on the network. You might need to change the password for the remaining band before you do this for added security.
