Can You Have More Than One Wifi Extender

Wifi Extender With Same Or Multiple Ssid

Get One WiFi Name with Nighthawk Mesh | Works with Any Router

When you are setting up your Wifi network range extender, some extender models offer you the ability to use the same or different SSID.

We recommend you to use a different SSID than your main router even if you have the choice to use the same SSID. The reason is that having different SSIDs can ensure a proper connection between your device to the right place. Many connection problems can arise when you take roaming into consideration when you are moving around with your mobile device inside the house.

Your mobile devices such as Google Android phone or Apple iPhone typically keep a wireless connection even when it is weaker. In short, when you have the same SSID for both the WiFi extender and the router, your mobile devices will almost always stick to the weaker one instead of disconnecting you and switch to the stronger one.

Your mobile devices is usually setup so that it will look for a new wifi connection when the existing one drops below a certain rating.

When you have both main router and the range extender with different SSIDs. You will have much easier time to force your devices to connect to the wireless node that makes the most sense.

C Router Converted To Wap

Many people like to use a second wireless router toextend their network because they have one readily available. Its a great ideabecause you can save some cash, but requires an extra step beyond setting up ageneric WAP. We essentially need to dumb down the router and make it a simpleWAP.

Disconnect your computer from the main network andconnect it to one of the LAN jacks on the 2nd router . Power on and the 2nd router. Set the wireless SSID, encryption, andpassword so they are identical to the main network. Set the wireless channel soit is different than the main router. Next, assign the 2nd router anIP address outside the DHCP range of the main router, but within the subnet. Ifthese were a simple WAP, you would be finished. But there is one last step.

DHCP Disabled

The last step is to turn off DHCP on the 2ndrouter, making it WAP with built-in switch. Disable DHCP and save the settings. Now you need to connect an Ethernet cable from an open LAN port on the back ofthe main router to an open LAN port on the back of the 2nd router.Make sure you are using a LAN port on the second router, not the WAN port youwould normally use if it were the DHCP server for the network.

What Is A Wifi Extender Or Booster And How Does It Work

A Wi-Fi signal booster extends WiFi network coverage space by boosting or amplifying existing signals. A wifi extender enables all wireless devices within that expanded coverage space to connect to internet or similar wireless network. It is unique solution that works by pulling in an existing weak Wi-Fi from transmitter. It then amplifies it before broadcasting the transmission to more spaces where needed. The WiFi signal booster helps to efficiently extend your current Wi-Fi network in the process reaching multiple floors in a building, all the corners of a home and even your yard, office or home.

Since youre reading this, there may be times in your office or home when you might have noticed certain rooms or areas hardly have any Wi-Fi. With a WiFi booster, the wireless coverage will be boosted to cover larger areas of need. As a result, you will enjoy better internet usage speeds as well as other extra benefits that will be clarified below. We have two very powerful Wi Fi boosters and extenders: Fusion 7 Wi-Fi extender & booster for up to 20,000 sq. ft. coverage, and Force 7 Wi Fi booster & extender for up to 80,000 sq. ft. reception improvement. In addition, these boost all cell service provider signals indoors too, over such large spaces.

Can I Chain Wifi Extenders

Since extenders must be in range and have direct communication with your router, it is not possible to create a daisy-chain of extenders to provide coverage on the other side of your home. Extenders are limited by distance, as they have to be placed close enough to communicate directly with your router.

Wifi extenders, repeaters and boosters what’s the difference?

Wi-Fi extenders, also known as Wi-Fi boosters or repeaters, are largely the same thing under a different name. If you have areas of your home where your current wireless internet cannot reach, they’re the perfect piece of kit to boost your existing signal.

They’re typically easy to use and set up, with most simply plugging into an available AC outlet in your wall, though some can resemble a stand-alone router.

Naming conventions appear to be a branding decision, but there are a few different ways that Wi-Fi extenders work. The most common is that your booster or extender houses two wireless routers, much like the wireless router you already have at home, or in your place of work. One of these wireless routers picks up the existing Wi-Fi network and then passes that to the secondary router which transmits the boosted signal.

It’s worth noting that many Wi-Fi extenders broadcast on a new Wi-Fi network with its own name, so you’ll need to connect to a different Wi-Fi signal depending on where you are in your home. As most devices will automatically connect to a trusted signal, this isn’t likely to cause too much of an issue.

What Can’t Wireless Extenders Do

While fairly easy to configure, range extenders have their limitations. They often use a separate network SSID that you have to log into as you move through the house, and Wi-Fi speeds are typically half of what you get from your main router. Most dual-band extenders use both radio bands to transmit data to and from the router, which means devices connecting to the extender are competing for bandwidth with the router. To help alleviate network congestion, some manufacturers let you dedicate a band for router-to-extender communications. Netgear’s Fastlane technology and Amped Wireless’s BoostBand technology are good examples.

S To Creating The Deep Dish Design

You might find it useful to have some sort of clamp to hold things together while the glue dries or while you trace the cutouts. I used a spare chip clip. Scotch or masking tape is also good to have on hand.

  • Start by using the line labeled side length on the template to draw four sides of a square onto your cardboard. Use something with a square edge to make sure you dont draw a skewed rhombus. I did this by placing the paper on the cardboard and then punching a hole through with a pen at each of the corners.
  • Cut out the square. This will be the reflector panel. Smear a thin layer of glue onto one side of the panel. Be sure to get close to the edges.
  • Place a sheet of aluminum foil onto the glue, covering the panel entirely. Trim off the edges of the foil so it matches the shape of the cardboard. Try to press out any bubbles or wrinkles. Mine has a seam in the cardboard that couldnt be avoided.
  • Cut out the strut, then use it as a stencil to trace and cut out another one. Youll want two struts per panel.
  • This is where it helps to have good glue like rubber cement or hot glue. I used Elmers glue and attempting to get everything to stay in place while the glue dried was a pain. I used some tape to help. I used some objects I had on hand to help ensure the panel didnt peel away from the struts.
  • As you can see, my deep dish wifi extenders came out way bigger than they needed to be, but they still worked pretty well. See our test results below:

We tested these two wi-fi extenders on a Linksys WR1200AC router using the 5 Ghz frequency using the Wifi Analyzer app for Android. We recorded the signal strength in decibel-milliwatts and the distance at which the signal dropped below -80 dBm and became unusable from outside the house. The extenders were pointed out a window in the testing direction.

The Correct Way To Use Multiple Wi

The ideal scenario if you plan to use multiple range extenders is to simply connect them both to your main router, but place them on opposite sides of the router, so they amplify the wireless coverage in different directions in the home for better overall coverage.

In this sense, you are not really piggy backing or daisy chaining them, but simply adding multiple range extenders to the home network, placing them on opposite sides of the router. See the graphic just below for a demonstration of this.

How To Correctly Use Multiple Range Extenders

Here you can see that the user has installed the extenders either side of their existing main router , and each extender effectively takes care of their half of the house, extending and amplifying coverage to that part of the home.

Each extender is connected to the main router in its own right , and they can be configured to each have a different SSID and password so you dont get confused which one is which.

Consult the instructions manuals or online guides of your particular brand for more on this Wi-Fi range extenders are usually very easy to set up and configure.

Here are a few things to bear in mind when using range extenders:

When set up this way, all extenders should be drawing the signal from the main router, and not really interacting with each other as such, but merely extending the wireless signal to the corner of the home where they are based.

How To Use 2 Wifi Extenders At The Same Time

Following are some of the major things you should do before you go buying a new extender to add to your existing one.

If you have checked everything, and you are sure that you want another extender to boost your WiFi speed, you are free to welcome the new extender at your home or workplace with open hands.

Lets face it! You will never have a single no-signal zone in your house or office.

    • Especially in office buildings where offices are on different floors, you can never expect the range to extend from the ground floor to the 10th floor with only a single extender.
    • Companies use mesh technology that includes even more than just two extenders to expand the range and transmit the WiFi signals through the building.
    • It is important to do a survey to find the other dead zones that are not under the extender you are already using.
    • There are many applications available on the app stores that can help you conduct a detailed survey of all the rooms for the dead zones.
    • Just install any Wifi analyzer survey app, launch it and walk around the house to get the signal strength and speed.
    • Make sure you check not only the rooms but also the yards and balconies. If the signal strength is weak but near to zero, adding a new extender in that area with the existing one can expand the range.
    • However, if the signals are extremely week, the performance o the new extender will be slow.

    Do Wifi Extenders Really Work

    Yes.

As long as you have a reliable internet connection in your home and place the extender in the best location, they are guaranteed to improve your WiFi’s signal range.

Keep in mind that they are not designed to stretch the signal throughout your entire home, though its tempting to think that because of the name. Extenders are more like spot fixers, designed to improve the dead zones in one or two areas.

Overall, wireless range extenders are an affordable and simple way of improving your WiFi network in small spaces.

    Install A Wifi Range Extender

    Amazons best

One way to attain complete WiFi coverage throughout your home is to install a range extender. A range extender increases WiFi coverage by connecting to your existing WiFi router and creating a separate WiFi network that has its own name and security credentials.

While wifi extender will work, they are not without their complexities and limitations. First, because a range extender has its own security credentials, your devices must constantly log into the range extender and then back into the router as you roam around your home. Second, the range extender cannot communicate simultaneously with your router and all your devices. This cuts transmission capacity in half, because the available bandwidth is shared by the range extender, the router, and all the connected devices. Overall WiFi performance, therefore, takes a significant hit with this method.

When it comes to home networking, WiFi extenders are great. Theyre inexpensive, easy to install, and they boost the wireless signal from your homes router. But what if you have two WiFi extenders? Can you connect one to the other?

You can connect a single WiFi extender to another WiFi extender. However, for the extenders to function successfully, you should not connect them wirelessly. They shouldnt share an identical SSID or network name.

    Wireless To Wirelessrange Extender

The easiest and least expensive option is to placewireless extenders in your home. These nifty devices grab an existing wirelesssignal and boost it, or repeat it. Since they wirelessly connect to yourexisting network, they need to be placed in an area that already has a solidwireless signal. The downside to this option is twofold. First, since wirelessextenders have to be close enough to the existing router that they have a goodwireless signal, they cant extend the network as far as other solutions.Second, because everything is wireless, they are more prone to slow speeds ordropped connection than other solutions

Some wireless extenders will extend the network undera different SSID . For example, the SSID from the router might be Audioholics, but the SSID from the extender is Audioholics_extended. Other extendersoperate under the same SSID as the router, so users never have to worry aboutswitching between wireless networks as its done seamlessly. We tend to preferusing the same SSID to create a more seamless experience. Its also best tomatch the wireless capabilities of the extender and the router. For example, ifyou have a dual band router, get a dual band extender.
