Amazon Fire Hd 10 Price And Release Date

  • Out now in the US and UK
  • Starts at $150 / £150

The all-new Amazon Fire HD 10 was released on May 26, 2021. Its availability appears to vary from country to country we’ve spotted it on Amazon US, UK and Canada but not Australia, for instance. So far, Amazon appears to have plenty of stock for its new tablet, unlike the new iPad Pro 2021.

Amazon simultaneously released the Fire HD 10 Plus, a slightly more expensive model with some key upgrades, and a productivity bundle with a Bluetooth keyboard and a Microsoft 365 Personal subscription.

The Amazon Fire HD 10 starts at $150 / £150 but goes up in price if you upgrade storage or remove lockscreen ads. The Fire HD 10 Plus sells for $180 / £180 with similar upsells.

Models
£230$305

While this review is focused on the standard 2021 tablet, Amazon is also selling the Fire HD 10 Kids 2021 tablet aimed at 3-to-7-year-olds, and the Fire HD 10 Kids Pro 2021 tablet for 6-to-12-year-olds .

At the time of writing, you won’t find any Fire tablet deals except for on older 2019 models. You may see small discounts during , but we doubt you’ll see anything worth waiting for if you decide you want one now.

Frankly, the new Amazon Fire tablet is so affordable for what it can do that you don’t need to look for a deal.

Specs Performance And Camera

Fire 7 tablet with Alexa, starting at $49.99
  • 3GB of RAM – 1GB more than its predecessor
  • No change to the chipset
  • A slightly upgraded but still weak camera

The last Fire HD 10 generation had a MediaTek MT8183 Helio P60T chipset, plus just 2GB of RAM. With the new Fire HD 10 and Fire HD 10 Plus, you get the same processor paired with 3GB or 4GB of RAM, respectively. The Mali-G72 MP3 GPU also remains unchanged.

Aside from the update to Bluetooth 5.0 and a small rear camera upgrade to 5MP, this tablet shares most of its specs with its predecessor. So how significant is the RAM upgrade for current 2019 Fire tablet owners?

Weight: 465gFront camera: 2MPBattery: Up to 12 hours

During our review, we tested the Amazon Fire HD 10 in a variety of contexts to put it through its paces. We played games like Bloons TD 6 and Subway Surfers, loaded sites in the Amazon Silk browser, split-screened video and productivity apps, and compared Alexa response time against the Echo Show 8.

Overall, the performance speeds impressed us. Alexa answered our questions promptly, apps and videos loaded without too much delay, the tablet had little difficulty running two apps at once in split-screen mode, and games ran without noticeable lag or stuttering.

The Fire HD 10 undoubtedly beats the 2019 tablet for speeds, yet not by a significant margin. You’ll still notice lag when opening a new app, stuttering as you scroll through the Prime Video library, and even a delay between unlocking your tablet and seeing your apps appear on screen.

Check For A Mobile Network Connection

Before your app transfers files or data, check whether the device is connected to a mobile network. In the following code, if isWIFIConnected is true, the device is connected to Wi-Fi. If isWANConnected is true, the device is connected to the mobile network.

finalConnectivityManagerconnectManager=context.getSystemService NetworkInfonetInfo=connectManager.getNetworkInfo booleanisWANConnected=netInfo.isConnected NetworkInfonetInfo=connectManager.getNetworkInfo booleanisWIFIConnected=netInfo.isConnected

If the device is connected to Wi-Fi, you don’t need to limit data transfers. However, if the device is connected to the mobile network, it should avoid large data transfers without giving the user the choice whether to proceed.

The Default Storage Space Is A Joke

The Fire Tablet’s default storage is another problem. With only 16GB to play with, you have three options:

  • Don’t install large games and apps.
  • Don’t download any movies from Amazon.
  • Buy a compatible microSD card and add more capacity.
  • This last solution might not seem too bad, but the other two are a real bummer. As we’ll see later, games take up space both as downloaded files and as installed programs.

Meanwhile, children love watching movies in the back of the car. You can download these from Amazon or sync them from your PC. Streaming is an option, but it’s not practical in the car.

One problem presents itself almost immediately: prepare too many movies for your little ones to watch, and you’ll quickly run out of space for other media and games.

As you can see, it’s all a bit tricky. Fortunately, it’s possible to , but it takes a bit of work.

G/4g Wireless Service Are Left Out To Keep Costs Down Avoid Costly Data Plans

    Senior Editor, Computerworld|

The low-cost computer tablets coming next week from Amazon and Barnes & Noble connect only over Wi-Fi networks, which reduces costs and also cuts the nation’s 3G/4G cellular carriers out of the equation.

Other tablets, such as the iPad 2 and several Galaxy Tab versions, however, connect to 3G/4G cellular as well as Wi-Fi, but also have Wi-Fi-only models.

So what’s behind the decision to support Wi-Fi-only in Amazon’s $199 Kindle Fire and Barnes & Noble’s $249 Nook Tablet?

Part of the answer stems from the way Amazon and Barnes & Noble see their tablets being used. Both see their devices primarily for consuming massive amounts of video, games, e-books and other media, which is best served over a low-cost Wi-Fi connection.

“Amazon and Barnes & Noble want people to spend money on their content, not on data plans to keep the tablets connected,” said Tom Mainelli, an analyst at IDC. “So I don’t think they have much interest in offering 3G/4G-enabled media tablets.”

Neither company has said whether it will eventually offer a cellular connection for their tablets, but there is little financial motivation to do so. Carriers might decide to offer cellular connections and service plans if the Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet become popular, but they might find customers balk over data pricing, data caps and overage charges.

It is filled with content from trusted brands like Disney, Nickelodeon, Sesame Street, PBS Kids, and National Geographic.

The best part is that your child can access the FreeTime Unlimited content while offline. This means you do not need to have WiFi in order to play, watch or read.

Before we leave for a trip, I just download any videos, books, games or apps from the that we want to have during the trip.

Once it is downloaded, it will work without WiFi. Then when we leave, the kids can have their tablet and I know exactly what they are doing. They cant get out of it without my approval. Plus, if they use it once weve arrived, I can limit their screen time. I can set it up so they have to read the books for that day before they can move onto the games & apps, while they are waiting for everyone else to get ready to head out for the day.
