Do CCTV Cameras Work Without The Internet

To access the smart features on your Ring Doorbell, you need a strong internet connection.Without it, the device has no way to share data and other information with the app on your phone.

You wont be able to access the live streaming or push notifications when there is movement detected. The camera will also not record and store video until it is online again. Other smart features like remote control of your device also require an internet connection.

If you need to boost your Wi-Fi, consider the Ring Chime Pro , which extends your Wi-Fi up to 2,000 square feet!

Security Cameras That Don’t Need Internet And You Want Remote Viewing

Your old house needs surveillance cameras but you don’t want to add network there, and you have to remotely get live streaming or get burglar motion detection alerts? Well, that would be a big big big headache to the security industry.

Luckily, now Reolink has worked out the solution.

Networks include many, like the traditional 2.4Ghz WiFi, 5Ghz WiFi, the wired network, the cellular mobile networks , etc.

So if your monitoring place has no traditional networks covered, you can try the 3G or 4G-LTE network. That’s how Reolink makes its brand-new 4G security camera, work.

All you need is a SIM card with a cellular data plan to go with the product.

Based on the cellular data network, it can start up, and work with all the features

No WiFi & Power Needed Rechargeable Battery or Solar Powered 1080p Full HD Starlight Night Vision 2-Way Audio Live View Anytime Anywhere.

Another pro that Reolink adds to it, is that it can be solar powered. So get a solar panel with it and you can just leave it there to work .

Here is a video shared by a real user Jens on his Youtube channel.

And good news is, Reolink Go reaches the lowest price ever. So if you prefer it, buy now.

Reolink Ip Poe Security Camera Rlc 411

If you are thinking whether the extra megapixels will make any difference in recording your security footage, get this Reolink RLC 411 to compare it with other IP cameras.

This camera offers 4x optical zooming feature with a 5 megapixel camera lens. It works on an Ethernet cable/ PoE technology.

It is waterproof and also has high quality IR night vision lens with motion sensors and alerting features.

The video output is excellent with shaper images which can be zoomed to see more clearly. We can monitor footages either in PC or on Mobile.

The major cons that I have observed is the absence of 2 way audio capabilities and extremely sensitive motion sensor.

Overall, this is the best option to go for, if you have low budget but in high requirement of security monitoring systems.

I have been using the Ring Camera both indoors and as an outdoor security camera for a while now.

I love how user-friendly the app is, and I dont mind paying a little extra for viewing the recorded videos.

I am sure you have noticed the light blinking on the camera in different ways.

Sometimes it goes away in a few seconds. At other times, it glows for a longer time.

I recently came across the device glowing blue and didnt know what to do.

Although the device was working properly, I wanted to find out the reason behind it.

There is no doubt that the glowing lights on your Ring Camera look very aesthetic.

But at times, the colors might be sending you a warning sign. Heres an extensive guide on what the blue light means in each scenario and what to do about it.

In most cases, the blue light on the Ring camera indicates its state of functioning.

If the light blinks blue and red, there might be something wrong with your internet connection. You can restart your router or RIng App to fix the issue.

No Wireless No Ring Video Doorbell

Can Ring Video Doorbells Work Without Wi

Unfortunately, the Ring Video Doorbell simply cant work without a wireless connection. A direct Ethernet cable access might seem like something youd want on Ring devices, but think about it. Most likely, youll be using the Doorbell outside. Messing around with drilling holes for the cables isnt something youd want to get into. Besides, who doesnt have a Wi-Fi connection in this day and age?

Putting It All Together

So, weve covered how to connect your doorbell camera and which methods work best.

As technology continues to evolve, Im sure more options will be released, and I will need to update this post.

For the time being, however, Wi-Fi is still the preferred method of connection and has been for quite some time.

If you want to access and use all the features of a doorbell camera without issue, I recommend beginning your investment with an internet service provider and a wireless network and router.

This will allow you to expand into other home automation devices and not be worried about how you will connect to these devices going forward.

For those of you further along in the process of home-automation, consider reading my article about the benefits and uses of a smart home hub to make all devices and technology communicate seamlessly.

Do Wifi Extenders Work With Ring Or Do You Have To Buy Ring Chime Pro

I have had a ring spotlight cam for just over a week and have recenty moved it from the front of the house to the back . In moving the spotlight cam I have noticed that the camera is now getting poor WiFi signal in the location at the back of the house. I have purchased a WiFi Extender so that it was a two in one option as the WiFi can be poor in the garden for other devices.

Should the WiFi extender I have work with the Ring spotlight cam? When I have tried to connect it I get the blue light flash to say it isnt able to connect to the network and move closer to the router.

When I connect my spotlight cam to the normal router it works but the quality of the video is low and I would love to get the camera at the best quality.

Any ideas on how to get this working for me?

Other devices are able to connect to the WiFi extender without any issues.

Or do I have to buy a Ring Chrime Pro for it to work?

Thank you Oli

I have the same issue. router 1 is my main router and router 2 is configured as a bridge. It is connected to the first router with an ethernet cable. Devices connected to the second router all work fine except for the spotlight camera. The camera finds, connects and configures but it will not go active when the app tries to activate it. I have tried it in the same room with the same results. What gives?

Comparing The Ip Camera With And Without Internet

Although there are security cameras which work even without Internet, the traditional with Internet security camera systems are pretty popular.

Hence, the public cannot help but compare them. Let’s take a look at the differences and similarities of the two, so you can have a better decision before expending some extra dollars in your security camera system.

Do Ring Doorbells And Cameras Have Cellular Backup

Unfortunately no, Ring does not allow you to have a cellular backup on your doorbells and cameras. If your internet or Wi-Fi goes out, they will not be able to operate without an internet connection and there is no option to replace said connection with a cellular backup.

The Ring Alarm system, however, does have their Protect Plus plan that enables cellular backup in the case of an internet failure but this is solely for the Ring Alarm System.

If need be, it is possible to set up a mobile hotspot and have your Ring doorbells and cameras connect to it. This method, however, would require you to set up your Ring devices all over again, as theyd be connecting to an entirely different internet source.

If youre only experiencing a temporary interruption of internet service, this may be a lot more hassle than its worth or is even necessary. Once the internet is restored you would have to set everything up all over again in order to connect back to your Wi-Fi.

Using a mobile hotspot is also not a good long-term solution as the internet speeds are far less than traditional Wi-Fi, and depending on your service, may incur significant charges from your mobile service provider.

How To Tell If Theres A Problem With Your Ring Doorbell

As with any smart home device, sometimes you’ll try to access it through your app only to find that you cant. This can be frustrating. Your Ring app will show your camera as Offline when the connection is out. With a Ring Video Doorbell Pro, a white light will travel clockwise around the doorbell button .

This is a good way to notify you, but it may not be the smartest security approach, because it advertises to anyone outside your door that the camera may not be working. Fortunately, fixing it can be quick and easy.

What Happens To Your Ring Doorbells And Cameras When The Wi

Ring Wi

Essentially nothing!

Without access to the internet in some form or fashion, Ring Doorbells and Cameras cannot detect nor record motion. Your Ring doorbell may still ring but it will only be heard outside from the actual device. Nothing else will be activated not the Ring Plug-in Chime nor your alerts on your phone, nor smart home devices such as the Amazon Echo.

In order to communicate with each other, Ring devices make use of SIP technology. SIP stands for Session Initiation Protocol. SIP is a signaling protocol that connects two points on an IP network a bit like a WhatsApp or Zoom call.

However, in order for the two points to be connected, just as the term Internet Protocol indicates, there needs to be an internet connection of some sort. Without that, the two endpoints on the network cannot communicate, and will not work.

Using Traditional Analog Cameras And Dvrs

OK, perhaps you don’t have modern IP cameras and NVRs and just want to use a basic security system with analog cameras and still work without Internet.

That’s also easy, you just need to hook up the analog cameras to the recorder, also known as DVR to start recording the camera footage.

See the following diagram that shows the analog cameras connected to a DVR which is connected to a router and to a laptop, using the Internet is optional.

This diagram shows two types of cables, the blue ones used between the laptop, router and DVR are the network cables. The yellow ones are coaxial cables that connect the analog cameras to the Digital Video Recorder.

==> Traditional analog cameras are still cheaper than IP cameras but are don’t have advanced features. If you didn’t decide yet which system to buy, I recommend you to read the article: What are the IP camera advantages?

You can also find more information about the traditional systems and DVRs in the article DVR for CCTV and How to setup a Hikvision DVR.

Final Thoughts On Ring Cameras Blue Light

Keep in mind that the Ring Stick Up Camera blinks blue fast to indicate that the Alarm/siren is enabled, whereas you wont get this if you havent set up your Ring Security System.

In addition, the Ring Doorbell glows blue while it charges. For your peace of mind, you can always use the timeline feature on your Ring app to keep track of any changes.
