Scour The Surroundings For Internet Hotspots
Cafes, airports, hotels, parks, restaurants, bars, museums, bus or train stations, even theaters, and cinemas often offer free internet access for guests, customers, and passers-by. Look around and try to find the nearest place that could potentially have Wi-Fi.
Note: dont forget that free Wi-Fi is a playfield for hackers. The best way to avoid trouble is to get a VPN.
Connect to a VPN, secure your internet traffic, and browse in any place with peace of mind.
Use A Hotspot Database
Many apps can help you find hotspots for free Wi-Fi in your area. Some apps have extra features that can help you find them. The Facebook app, for example, has an option for finding nearby Wi-Fi hotspots. Some websites and apps are designed with the sole purpose of providing a database of free Wi-Fi hotspots. A couple of examples are NetSpot and WiFi Map.
Again, be sure to use cybersecurity best practices when accessing free Wi-Fi networks. Be cautious about transmitting personal or financial information while on any network you find on one of these apps.

How Do Wifi Finder Applications Work
WiFi finder apps identify all WiFi networks available and gather as much information about them as possible. This includes WiFi name, security, channel, brand, signal strength, etc. Different WiFi finder apps gather different information. But even if you install a free WiFi finder application on your smartphone, it will provide you with the most extensive information on WiFi activity in your vicinity.
Some WiFi finder applications are capable of conducting WiFi surveys. They collect WiFi data from different places and visualize it on a map. WiFi survey applications are useful for optimizing WiFi coverage and eliminating deadspots, which are areas of signal weakness.

Be Aware Of The Disadvantages Of Free Wifi
Although all of the above sound wonderful, there are some disadvantages you need to consider. Free WiFi maps, for instance may limits you because all depends of the places which are registered on those apps. Perhaps you are in the Anji bamboo forest and you need to check out your emails.
Maybe there is no free Internet. Dont miss that magic walk surrounded with imposing bamboos, pal! In the same way airports are an excellent choice, nevertheless you are not going to spend all your time there like Viktor Navorsky in The Terminal movie, arent you? So that is a brief solution.
The same applies for the others free WiFi hotspots. If you consider yourself as a heavy data eater, you need a different and better option.
Get Free Wifi From Your Cable Company
Very few people would be interested in getting free internet from a cable company. However, this method provides you with some advantages too. For instance, you are allowed access to their many wifi hotspots in different parts of the country. To be able to identify the wifi hotspots provided by that particular cable company, all you have to do is check their website or download their app.
The only thing about this option that will probably not please you is their requirement for you to subscribe to the home cable internet. This means that even if you will have access to their free wifi hotspots available all over the towns and cities, you still have to pay for the cable internet. Therefore, weigh your options carefully and decide whatever will work in your best interest.

Dont Sweat It Too Much
We recognize that some situations are particularly dire or essential and require Internet access like navigation, school, or work. Using that same Internet connection for entertainment isnt a necessity, so you can limit your social media scrolling and stop streaming movies to put yourself to sleep. Chalk up the lack of Wi-Fi to a loss and try out a new hobby, get outside, or read the book on your shelf that youve meant to pick up again.
Overall, theres almost always a way to get Internet access. You may need to pass the time while you wait for the installation or troubleshooting to complete. But if youre persistent and creative, youll find a Wi-Fi option. While you wait, pick up a book, get outside, or play a good old-fashioned board game and you might even stay entertained without the Internet for a few hours.
Use Your Cable Company
This may not be technically free, but if youre already paying for a cable or Internet subscription from companies like Xfinity, youre plan may include access to Wi-Fi hotspots. Just login at your cable/Internet provider account and youll be connected to Wi-Fi.
Believe it not, cable companies are teaming up so that you can access Wi-Fi from a competitor! Sometimes youll notice this new inclination to help you immediately access an opposing competitor’s Wi-Fi right away. For example, Ive been in Dunkin Donuts that ask for an Xfinity account to get online. If youre not sure if this is a part of your plan contact customer service or visit Cable Wi-Fi.

Beware The Trap Of Fake Public Wifis
Yup thats right there are fake public Wi-Fis out there too!
In worst case scenarios, these are actually fake malicious networks set up by cybercriminals who are hoping for unsuspecting victims to come along and connect to them.
Usually, these Wi-Fis have names that sound like nearby hotels or restaurants, like Free_Airport_Wifi and WendysFreeWifi. In reality, youve walked into their trap.
They can now snoop on all data that flows through the network and even slip malware onto your device.
Use A Portable Router
This method is similar to the previous one, but, instead of using a mobile phone, you can use a portable router as a WiFi hotspot. Again, this method is not exactly free, as you will need to pay for the SIM card or data for your portable router. However, there are portable router deals that dont need long-term contracts. You only need to pay for the data you spend, without making a commitment to pay monthly fees.

App Is Convenient And Finally Has The Features It Claims To Have
Edit: the offline feature was missing for a long time, even though it was a touted feature. It has been added, so I wanted to update my review of the app to reflect that. As it stands now, app does what it states, which is a cloud-sourcing database of WiFi connections. It is convenient to make connections and can prefill passwords when a WiFi in the database is recognized. I continue to contribute access points when possible and have found the app is useful and convenient. Ive contributed over two dozen WiFi points, and paid for a membership specifically to get access to offline hotspot data and it is not available. Even though the app description lists it as a feature, when I attempt to access it, a message pops up saying it will be available on the next update, yet The app has been updated 5 times since I paid and still it is unavailable. The app description should be accurate, but it is currently blatantly lying. I want my money back for a paid feature that is being falsely advertised.
