Choose The Locations For The Wifi Extender
Place your extender in a strategic location. We recommend placing it where it is close enough to the router to get a strong signal, but far enough to broadcast signal into the desired location.
Some extenders have wired connectivity as an option, with an ethernet port that can be used to connect wired devices. If you have wired devices, you can use a fast ethernet cable to connect the device and the wifi extender.
How To Change Ssid Of Extender
The wireless extender is a repeater , which relays a WiFi signal, expands the original wireless signal, and extends the WiFi signal to other places where there is no wireless coverage or where the signal is weak.

Set up steps
STEP-1Configure the extension
First, make sure the extender has successfully extended the main router. If no Settings have been set, click the reference instruction manual.
Connect to the extender’s LAN port with a network cable from a computer network port
Note: The name of the wireless password after successful expansion is either the same as the upper level signal, or it is a custom modification of the extension process.
STEP-2Assigned manually IP address
Extender LAN IP address is 192.168.0.254, please type in IP address 192.168.0.x x range from 2 to 254, the Subnet Mask is 255.255.255.0 and Gateway is 192.168.0.254.
Note: How to manually assign an IP address, please click the FAQ#
STEP-3Login to the management page
Open the browser, clear the address bar, enter 192.168.0.254 to the management pageclick Setup Tool.
STEP-4View or modify the wireless parameters
4-1. View the 2.4G wireless SSID and password
Click Advanced Setup-> wireless-> Extender Setup, Select the SSID configuration type, Modify the SSID, If you need to see the password, check Show, Finally click Apply.
Note: The password cannot be modified. It is the password for connecting to the upper router.
Getting The Right Extender Speed
Your next option is the speed rating of the Wifi Extender. In general, you should always choose the same speed rating as your router. Your entire WiFi network is only as fast as the slowest link, this means that you will have wasted resources by having a slower node or access point within your extended WiFi network.
This means that if your router is running on 802.11N network, you will need to have a Extender having N or higher. For example if you have a N300 rated router, you should use a N300 rated extender, and the same for N600 router + N600 Wifi Extender.
And if your router is running on 802.11AC, you will need to have an AC enabled extender or else your network will be slowed down to the slowest link.

How Does Wifi Range Extender Work
Most home use consumer wifi extenders are wireless repeaters. The range extenders receive wireless and repeat the signals into the air. Now because you can place the repeaters away from your main router, having a range extender can effectively increase the overall coverage of your wireless transmission.
However, the increase in area coverage comes with a cost. The overlapped or common areas between the repeater and the router can suffer performance issues. As the same transmissions occur over the same frequency and channel.
Signal Booster vs Range ExtenderSome people confuse signal booster with most commercially sold retail wifi range extenders. Signal boosters are usually attachments to your router or computer devices to amplify or increase the signal strength. Range extenders are typically stand-alone devices that repeat the signals of your network.
Signal boosters can be limited in ways that even if your routers can send signal to the devices, your client devices may not have the ability to transmit that information back. However, they can be great for 1 way transmissions. Signal boosters can still suffer performance issues if the wireless signal is blocked by multiple walls or metals.
How Do I Set Up My Router As A Repeater
An alternative to the AP Mode solution is to set your extra router up in its Repeater mode. This is a good option if you dont have an extra Ethernet cable lying around. Heres how to do it.
Make sure your main router is turned on and is broadcasting its Wi-Fi signal.
Update your old routers firmware so it has the latest security and feature improvements.
Log into your old routers admin settings via a web browser or its official app.
Check the bottom of the router for its login information.
Locate the old routers wireless settings and select Repeating Mode.
The exact phrasing and steps for this can differ quite a bit depending on your routers model. Repeating Mode may also be called Wireless Bridge Mode, Extender Mode, Repeater Mode, or something similar.
Select the Wi-Fi network being created by your primary router and connect to it with its password and, if needed, username.
This step can vary dramatically depending on the router youre using. You may be asked to enter your main routers IP address or Mac address and admin information instead of, or in addition to, the Wi-Fi network login information.
Confirm the changes.

Having Trouble Getting A Solid Reliable Wifi Signal In Some Parts Of Your Home A Wifi Repeater Could Be The Solution For You
A WiFi repeater or extender is used to extend the coverage area of your WiFi network. It works by receiving your existing WiFi signal, amplifying it and then transmitting the boosted signal. With a WiFi repeater you can effectively double the coverage area of your WiFi network – reaching far corners of your home or office, different floors, or even extend coverage to your yard.
Whats the difference between a WiFi booster, repeater, or extender?
WiFi boosters, repeaters, and extenders are mostly the same thing – devices to improve WiFi coverage. There isnt a clearly defined difference between devices that manufacturers describe as repeaters and devices described as extenders. However, not all WiFi extenders work in the exact same way. There are several different kinds of devices available and below we aim to explain what those differences are and how they work, so that you can choose the best WiFi repeater for your circumstances.
I have trouble getting WiFi signal in some corners of my house. What should I try first?
There are a couple of solutions to try before opting for a WiFi extender. The simplest is to try moving the location of your WiFi router. It should be in the most central location possible. If that doesnt help check if your router needs to be upgraded. If youve had an older model for many years, it could be time for an upgrade to a more powerful model.
My WiFi is in the best location possible! My router is up-to-date! But my coverage is still unreliable!

Where To Put Your Wi
Choosing where to place your network extender is essential. Ideally you want it close enough to your Wi-Fi router at the source to get the most stable connection, but far enough away that it will cover a large area that the router doesnt cover.
For example: if you live in a two-story house and your router is on the main floor in the living room, an ideal spot for the extender is plugged into an outlet at the top of the stairs. This will give it a fairly reliable, line-of-sight connection to the router, while rebroadcasting its wireless signal to the rooms on the second floor.
This outlet is in the middle of my halfway, between the router in the living room and the bedrooms.
If youre using a Wi-Fi extender for just one user , youll want to place it approximately between that user and the Wi-Fi router. If you want to connect to the extender over Ethernet , you might have to fudge it and go farther.
Remember that once youve set up your Wi-Fi extender, you can move it around your home as needed. Feel free to experiment with placement to get the best, most reliable signal.

Do I Need To Extend My Wifi Signal
You may be tempted to rush out and buy a product promising you better WiFi coverage, but thats not necessarily the best approach. Sometimes, the solution can be as simple as changing up where your router is located within your home.
That said, if your router is in a central position already, or you cant move it from where it is, there are a number of products you can use to help deliver a solid connection where you need it.
In this guide, well take a look at the popular types of devices meant for extending your home WiFi network. Well also look at some of the most common coverage issues that come up, as well as how to fix them.
How Many Wifi Extenders Can You Have In Your House
To have the best wireless coverage area, you can use multiple WiFi range extenders.
However, keep the following in mind:
- Every WiFi extender will need to be connected and in range of a WiFi router to access the internet.
- Do not connect one WiFi extender to another, as it will cause one of the extenders to stop working.
- Each extender needs to have a different WiFi network name from each other to prevent them from connecting to one another.

How To Extend Wifi Range
Your wifi router may have a button for a 5GHz band. If it does, you will probably want to utilize this as it is less congested and is not as affected by wireless interferences as much as 2.4GHz. One downside to 5GHz is that it has a tendency to have range issues now and then, but placement can decrease the likelihood of interruptions in your wifi performance.
With this in mind, keep the extender between your wifi router and wireless devices and preferably in an open space. A crowded area with Bluetooth gadgets or even in a kitchen near a microwave could interfere with how well the extender boosts the wifi signal.
How I Tested Them
We’re still working from home here in 2021, so for my second round of at-home range extender tests, I followed the same playbook as I did in 2020. In short, I ran lots and lots and lots of speed tests.
I started out by measuring the average internet speeds in five different parts of my home, a 1,300 square-foot shotgun-style house with an incoming AT& T fiber internet connection of 300Mbps. I started towards the front of the house in the living room, where the router sits, then worked my way back to my home’s back bathroom — a common dead zone whenever I’m running speed tests here. Even with an AX1500 Wi-Fi 6 router running my Wi-Fi network traffic, speeds in that back bathroom dropped to averages of 15Mpbs for a Wi-Fi 5 client device and 50Mbps for a Wi-Fi 6 device . Upload speeds are typically in the single digits and sometimes the connection drops you outright.
Those baseline speeds are represented by the gray columns in the test results below. See how they drop off in that back bathroom?
The top chart shows you the average speeds in each room when I ran my speed tests on a six-year-old laptop with an aging Wi-Fi 5 radio. For the bottom chart, I ran my speed tests on an iPhone 12 Pro with full support for Wi-Fi 6. All of the extenders boosted the back bathroom speeds for both of them, but some did a better job than others.

Choosing Your Wifi Extender Brands And Model
Without digging deeper into the brands or best models of Wifi Extenders, as this guide is not intended as a comprehensive Wifi extender buying guide, we will simply suggest you purchasing the same branded Wifi Extender as your router. For example, if you have a netgear router, buy a netgear wifi extender. And use a motorola wifi extender if you have a motorola router.
The reason behind this simple recommendation is that although WiFi is a standardized technology, different manufacturers can still design or code things a little differently. Some manufacturers implement minor differences or features to boost their performances and may use different technological wording or terms.
These small differences can cause unforeseen errors or problems that are hard to diagnose down the road. Compatibility is the number one consideration when picking out your ideal wifi extender. Save yourself potential hassle by simply going for the same brand setup. This way you only have to deal with 1 set of terms or even customer support rather than having to cross reference and research.
So if you are renting a modem/router combination from a Cable Company such as Comcast, Time Warner or At& ts U-verse. Simply check the brand of that router, and opt to purchase the same branded wifi extendesr.
