Boost Your Ps4 Internet With Dns:
When you download a game, you want to be able to look up the name of the server hosting your game as quickly as possible. This is done via a service called DNS. Think of it like your phones contacts. You dont know everyones telephone number, so you look up their name and it tells you what their telephone number is. Same thing with websites.
The quickest change is to change the DNS. You do this by following these steps:

Cut Down On Broadband Usage
If your router doesnt have a QoS feature, you may need to cut down on how much internet you is using on unnecessary downloads. Theres a few ways to do this:
On Windows, press control + alt + delete and click on Task Manager. Navigate to the Startup tab.
To get this list up on Mac, go to System Preferences > Users and Groups. Then choose your user and click on the Login Items tab.
From here, click on any non-essential programs that are likely to use bandwidth , and click Disable. This will stop them from opening on startup and hogging your internet while you use your computer.
Here are some other things you can do:
- Change your torrent clients settings to stop it seeding files youve downloaded. If this is going on in the background, your internet may slow to a crawl. Alternatively, set a limit on how much bandwidth it can use for seeding .
- Disable automatic updates on gaming clients like Steam and Origin, as well as on mobile app stores.
- Set limits on when certain members of the family can use the internet. Maybe on weekdays the kids can have 3 oclock until 7, and the adults get 7 until 11pm.
If youd prefer to have anyone in your house be able to use as much internet as they want, whenever they want, you might want to consider upgrading your broadband plan.
Complain To Your Internet Provider
Although this one isnt going to help immediately, internet service providers are companies like any other. If they start getting lots of complaints, theres a chance that theyll improve their service.
You may even find that theres an upgrade available to your plan that will increase your download speeds. Just be sure to read the fine print so that youre actually going to get faster internet speeds.

Underexploited Ways To Deal With A Slow Wi
More and more hotels and guesthouses around the world seem to be offering free Wi-Fi nowadays to their travelling guests.
Now this sounds great, at least in theory, but how often do you end up in a room thats so far away from the router that you cant even see the hotels wireless network in your device settings, let alone connect to it?
Or maybe youre sick and tired of connecting to hotel Wifi networks that are so slow that they make you want to tear your hair out in frustration. Its killing your productivity.
But youre not out of luck for a solution just yet. Weve managed to come up with 19 underexploited ways to deal with the problem of a slow WiFi connection when youre travelling.
Buckle up and sit tight folks, we’re going to try and sort this problem out once and for all.
Buy A Wifi Repeater/ Booster/ Extender
Even though they are referred to by many names, WiFi boosters, repeaters, and extenders are basically the same thing.
WiFi repeaters are relatively simple devices that take an existing signal from your WiFi router and rebroadcast it as a new network. This new network is just an extension of your main network, and all data that go through it also go through the main network.
WiFi boosters and extenders are very similar, but they also amplify the existing signal before rebroadcasting it to create a second network. Because WiFi boosters typically have greater range than WiFi repeaters, they make sense in situations where the original signal is very weak.
A good repeater or booster costs less than $100, and it can be installed in a few minutes by anyone since the installation process usually involves only the press of the WPS button. You can find a list of the top 5 WiFi boosters at the end of this article.
To achieve the best performance when using a WiFi repeater or booster, its a good idea to use a WiFi booster app to analyze existing WiFi coverage and determine the optimal way how to extend the existing WiFi network.

Troubleshoot Your Network Wifi Speed
Before you call your ISP and tell them what you think of their terrible Internet speed, you need to make sure that they are indeed at fault. In most cases I have seen, the cause for the slow Wifi is actually something that can easily be solvable by troubleshooting your own WiFi network.
To troubleshoot your network all you need to do is use the process of elimination until you can identify the area that is at fault.
Use Better Dns Servers
When you visit a website, your computer sends the domain name to a domain name system server. The DNS server will then return the IP address associated with the domain name, which the browser requires in order to be able to connect to the website.
Most routers will use the DNS servers that your ISP runs. However, sometimes theyre just unresponsive, or have really poor latency.
To resolve this, simply tell your computer or phone to connect to different DNS servers there are plenty of free ones out there.
Heres how to do this on Windows 10. Well be using Cloudflares DNS server 18.104.22.168 and its backup, 22.214.171.124.
If you dont have a shortcut to your control panel on the taskbar like we do, simply type control panel into the start menu to bring it up.
On Mac, the process is pretty similar.
- Open system preferences.
- Look for DNS servers and select it.
On mobile devices, youll normally find the option in settings > WiFi/wireless. It might be located under an Advanced or a DNS tab.

Install Virus And Malware Scanners
If you havent already done so, we highly recommend installing an antivirus- and malware-scanning software. Its probably obvious that any viruses or malware lurking on your computer will put a major drag on your internet speed. Plus, you should have protection software installed as a general rule anyway.
Once you have some good software on board, set it to scan for viruses and malware automatically on a regular basis. If the software does find existing viruses or malware , get it removed by a computer technician and get back to easy browsing.
Use A Powerline Adapter
Is your router too far away from your computer, Xbox or PS4 to connect the two with an Ethernet cable?
To make the switch from WiFi to Ethernet without the need for a 30m long cable, you can use a handy gadget called a powerline adapter.
Basically, they use your electricity lines to transmit internet data. Dont worry this wont disrupt your mains power supply.
Heres how to set them up:
Normally theyre sold in sets of two, with two included Ethernet cables. You can buy more though to connect multiple devices to your router.

Channel Hopping: Avoiding Interference
Wireless routers broadcast data on a specific channel. In reality, however, data overlaps five adjacent channels. Lots of devices in close proximity, all using the same channels on the 20MHz spectrum, can cause interference.
With only a dozen channels available, options for switching are limited . A 40MHz network has channels that are twice as wide but occupy a huge chunk of the spectrum on a 2.4GHz network, and so don’t really solve the problem.
A 5GHz network uses channels much further along the spectrum, well away from the channels used on 2.4GHz, and so by putting those devices that support 5GHz at that end of the spectrum, you keep the 2.4GHz channels free for those devices that need them.
Add An Internet Extender
A Wi-Fi extender works similarly to a Wi-Fi repeater to boost your internet signal to other rooms. The advantage is that extenders are less likely to limit your bandwidth than Wi-Fi repeaters, and they provide connected devices with a strong internet connection. A powerline Ethernet kit uses a wired link to your router to provide Wi-Fi signals to other devices in your home. Because its wired, it doesnt use additional Wi-Fi bandwidth to communicate.
A powerline Ethernet kit is usually a good way to boost internet for basement gaming equipment or devices in a garage. Since it requires wiring, though, its not the best internet boosting solution for everyone.

Check Your Wifi Receiver
Its easy to blame your poor old router for slow WiFi, but how well are your devices actually picking up its signal?
If youve got a piece of hardware thats over five years old that always seems to have slow internet, it could be that its WiFi receiver is faulty.
Custom-built PCs dont normally have the hardware necessary for WiFi installed by default. If youre using a plug-and-play USB solution, this could be slowing you down. Switch to an adapter that plugs into a PCI-E slot on your motherboard for better reception.
To test how good your devices WiFi receptors are, simply take it to a friends house .
If its still slow, you might need to replace your devices networking card or upgrade to a new piece of hardware.
Router Placement Is Key
The router, which brings in the data from an outside cable, or over the air depending on your type, is where everything bottlenecks. If this isn’t sending out the most data at the highest speed, then everything connected after that will suffer.
So, first and foremost, make sure the router is in the best position. That doesn’t just mean in the ideal room — where you use the internet most — but also positioned well. The WiFi router has to have space around it and is, ideally, placed off the ground level. This way that wireless radio signal can get a good start to reach all over your home.
To do this, get the router away from any large and potentially deadening objects. So think metal fridges or TVs, dense brickwork walls or fireplaces, metallic framed furniture or even other gadgets. Essentially the more space around your router, the more speed that signal can offer.
Also, if your router has antennas, make sure they’re pointing in the right direction. That means out toward your devices as opposed to at a wall, or metal object nearby, for example. Antenna send signals omnidirectionally, so a vertical one will send it horizontally. So if you want WiFi upstairs try setting your antenna lying down horizontally to fire that signal upward.
Finally, make sure your router is running the latest software and that you regularly restart it to be sure it’s running most optimally.

Turn It Off And Restart It
Its an idea so well known that it became a catchphrase on a British sitcom, but seriously, have you tried turning it off and on again? Electronics arent meant to be running constantly, but by power cycling, you can dramatically improve performance in your slow router. If youre only getting half the speed youre paying for from your ISP, try this trick before you call to complain. Its remarkable how often this is the solution youre looking for.
First, run a speed test and write down your upload and download speeds. Then turn off your computer and internet-connected devices. Then unplug the power cord from your model and your router, and wait five minutes. Plug everything back in, and wait for your modem and router to acknowledge theyre connected to the internet. Turn your devices back on, and check your speed again. You should notice an improvement. If not, consider calling your ISP.
What Is The Difference Between A Wired Vs Wireless Connection
Wired speeds are delivered when you plug an Ethernet cable from your modem or router directly into your device typically a computer, laptop, television, gaming console or other Internet enabled device. When a device is connected with an Ethernet cable it can achieve its fastest speeds. Why? Because your Internet is physically attached to your device, theres nothing coming between it and your Internet signal. A wired connection is always better and should be used wherever it makes sense to do so. Try to match each device with its best connection. PCs, laptops, media players and gaming consoles work best with a wired connection mobile devices and tablets work best on WiFi.
Not all services, speeds, packages, equipment, channels, tiers, pricing, streaming services, product offerings and product features are available in all areas. All names, logos, images and service marks are property of their respective owners. Other restrictions may apply.

Find And Unload Internet Hijackers
Sometimes poor internet performance is caused by someone hijacking your internet connection. It would be best to change your password to something hard to guess. Use secure protocols when possible. Dont use public networks such as WiFi hotspots. To lock your connection or change the password, go to your routers configuration webpage in a web browser.
Purchase A Newer High
The biggest issue holding back your homes Wi-Fi connection may be your aging router. Thankfully, there are numerous advantages to purchasing a brand new router, so youd be investing in more than faster internet speeds.
A new router could also give you improved home security features and be compatible with a wider spectrum of devices. Additional security and compatibility help homeowners interested in automating their home or making their network more secure.

Use An Ethernet Cable Whenever Possible
Wi-Fi is great, but it wont be as fast as a connection that uses an Ethernet cable.
Why is that? Well, because Wi-Fi travels through the air instead of through a cable, your internet connection loses speed and signal strength as it travels over distance and has to go through walls, floors, and other objects. A wired connection, on the other hand, just has to travel through the Ethernet cable to get to your device.
If you must use Wi-Fi, you can try swapping to a different frequency if you have a dual-band router. If youre currently on your routers 2.4 GHz frequency network, try swapping to the 5 GHz frequency network.
Your internet might kick into a higher gear if the frequency you swap to is being used by fewer devices that are all demanding that sweet high-speed connection.
