How Much Is Xfinity Internet
The cost of Xfinity internet packages ranges from $20 to $299.9 per month, depending on the speeds you require. For basic download speeds up to $50 Mbps, Performance Starter Plus can be ideal while for super-fast internet speeds up to 1G or 2G, you can consider Gigabit or Gigabit Pro Plans at $80 and $ 299.9 per month, respectively.
Does Internet Service Have Any Hidden Fees
These are some common fees your ISP might tack on to your bill:
- Installation fee
- Equipment rental fee
- Data cap fees
Installation fees are a one-time thing and they usually cost around $100. Some ISPs will give you free installation. Even if they dont, you can ask them to waive the fee. No harm in trying, right?
An equipment rental fee is the price you pay to lease equipment from your ISP. You can get around this fee if you buy your own equipment. But only do that if you plan to keep your service for at least a couple years.
Data cap fees are what you might pay if you use more than your allotted data each month. These are kind of rare these days. Most ISPs either dont give you a limit at all or give you a limit so high that youll probably never reach it.
Sometimes you can have lower data caps but not have to pay fees for going over them. For example, satellite internet providers often have soft data caps where theyll slow down your speeds if you use too much data but you dont have to pay any fees.
Term Agreements: None Or One
With the exception of the Gigabit Pro plan which requires a two-year term agreement, Xfinity lets you opt for no contract, but with a catch. In some areas, choosing a no-term agreement will likely raise the introductory price of your plan by $10/mo. or more.
Xfinity plans in service areas in the Western and Northeast regions are also likely to come with no-contract options, but with less price increases than other regions. The exception is Xfinitys lowest-priced plan, which does come with a higher price if you choose no term agreement.
Another option if you are looking for no contracts and cheap internet is the Xfinity Prepaid Internet plan. With this plan, you get refurbished internet equipment for a one-time fee of $35 and 20 Mbps for $45/mo. or $15/week. This plan does not require any contracts.

Xfinity Data Overage Fees: $10 Per 50 Gb Block
Most internet plans come with a 1 TB data cap. That means you can use up to 1 TB of data each month, after which youll be charged a fee.
Xfinity charges a standard $10 for every 50 GB block of data over the capeven if you dont use the whole 50 GB block. But it will charge you only up to $200 in these overage feesoh wait, no, thats nothing to be excited about because its still a ton of money.
Most people will probably never reach the data cap1 TB is a good bit of data. Still, heavy downloaders or streamers who are afraid of running into these overage charges should consider buying the $50 add-on for unlimited data or springing for the unlimited Gigabit Pro package.

Is Xfinity Mobile Worth It
It depends on your situation, but for some customers, Comcasts mobile service seems like a solid value, especially for single users who want unlimited data. The included 5G is just the cherry on top. Families should also give Xfinity Mobile a look now that there’s discounts on multiple lines.
Users that can get by on just 1 or 2 GB of data per month would also likely do well on Xfinity Mobile. But as noted above, the more data you use at Xfinity Mobile, the less attractive the service becomes when compared to the best prepaid phone plans.
Xfinity Mobile is more appealing now that you can bring your own phone to the service, though Android users will need to have very specific Samsung or Google phones to take advantage of that feature. You can check if your current phone will be compatible using the Comcast’s checker tool.
You can use Xfinity Mobile when traveling to other countries, though you’ll be charged for talk, text and data . In other words, there are better international data plans.

Service Providers Use Their Lock On Neighborhoods And A Lack Of Rules To Take Advantage Of Us Heres How To Spot Their Tricks
I recently moved and needed to sign up for Internet and TV service. I chose a package that Comcast advertised would cost $90 per month.
When the first bill arrived, it totaled surprise! $127.72. Thats 42 percent more.
As Ive learned, jacking up prices for service is perfectly legal. Its also maddeningly common.
My murky Comcast bill exposes a much deeper problem. The coronavirus pandemic taught us that being online is as important as having electricity. But theres quite literally a price we pay as consumers for the way companies have cornered the market for Internet access. Across many American communities, one or two companies control how we get online and treat us like captives. They obscure the truth on their bills. And when we dont know what were paying for, we end up getting fleeced.
About 200 million people live in parts of America with only one or two options for reliable, fast Internet, according to a recent report from the White House. Im an example of one of these shotgun weddings: Comcast is the only company I could find serving my San Francisco neighborhood with the minimum 100 Mbps service I needed to support a family working and streaming from home.
And most of all, they push us onto packages with limited-time pricing that rises dramatically if you dont remember to call up and threaten to quit.

Fiber Plans Speed And Data
Xfinity is currently rolling out its first and only fiber plan Gigabit Pro. This fully unlimited ultra-fast fiber internet option can reach download speeds of up to 2,000 Mbps , which is up to 40 times faster than traditional home connections.
The catch? Its Gig-speed connection is still in its early stages, and it’s only available in a handful of cities. It’s also costly: Xfinity’s only fiber option rings in at a stunning $300 per month, with $500 installation and $500 activation fees.
With steep upfront and monthly costs, as well as countless system requirements, this already limited service is nearly unattainable for the average household. Until this connection becomes more readily available , you may want to look elsewhere for fiber.
Xfinity Wifi Router Options
Xfinity comes with three router options in 2021:
|Bring your own modem and router||Voids tech support|
The xFi Gateway is basically a modem/router unit that broadcasts WiFi in your home. The upsell for complete throws in an xFi Pod that extends the WiFi for larger or oddly-shaped homes. xFi complete also includes unlimited data.
The xFi Pods are made in collaboration with a company called Plume, which is a good thing because theyve been doing some of the more interesting work improving home networking hardware/software in the past couple years. Xfinity is their largest partner, but they also work with a variety of smaller ISPs.
$14 per month is pretty steep for WiFi service, although Xfinity makes a case for it with decent hardware and well-designed mesh networking options. However, if youre in a two-bedroom home or apartment, youre likely better off just buying your own to save the $168 per year it adds up to.
Xfinity is compatable with most major modem and router combinations, and they maintain a full list of compatable devices on their site.

Using Xfinity Wireless Gateway
If you opted to do a self install with an Xfinity Wireless Gateway, Comcast will ship you an xFi wireless gateway for speeds under 300 Mbps and an xFi Advanced Wireless Gateway for internet speeds at 300 Mbps and above. Regardless of the device, you are sent, the install process is the same. This device is a combination of modem and router that will manage your Xfinity Internet connection.
The easiest way to install Xfinity Internet is to to your mobile device and follow the instructions. If youre not presented with the option to activate your Gateway upon opening the app, within the xFi app and navigate to More/Add a Device/xFi Gateway. However, if you want to use a laptop, you can follow the instructions below.

Xfinity Mobile: What About 5g
The Verizon 5G network launched in 2019, so it was only a matter of time before MVNOs like Xfinity Mobile were able to use the faster 5G service. Xfinity Mobile 5G service went live in May 2020, and the good news is, you don’t have to pay extra for the faster service. It’s included with regularly priced Xfinity Mobile plans.
That means Xfinity customers who pay $45 a month for unlimited data are getting access to 5G for around half the cost of what Verizon customers pay. Verizon includes 5G with its Play More and Do More unlimited plans, which start at $80 for a single line the $90-a-month Get More plan also includes 5G.
There are some caveats to Xfinity Mobile’s 5G service. First, you’ll need a 5G-ready phone, but those are more readily available at different price points. You can get yourself a Galaxy S21 Ultra or iPhone 12 Pro Max, or go with the $649 Galaxy A71 5G or the $499 Pixel 4a 5G.
Verizon 5G now reaches coast to coast, covering 2,700 cities and towns, though those speeds aren’t much faster than LTE. To get high-speed mmWave, you’ll need to be in one of the cities where Verizon has installed the high-speed service.

Xfinity Internet Pricing And Speeds
Unfortunately, you wont find the same Xfinity internet plan pricing and term agreement requirements everywhere. Some locations may have a higher price than others for the same internet speed tier. Furthermore, contract requirements can differ by region, meaning opting for no contract in one region may come with a price increase you wouldnt see in another.
Pricing isnt completely random, however, as Xfinity groups its plans into three regions of the country: the West, Central and Northeast. But no matter where you live, you can expect your monthly bill to go up by $15 to $30 after the first year. In some cases, the discount last for two years, and then increases dramatically in the third.
On the plus side, a subscription to the Peacock Premium streaming service is included with all Xfinity plans.
