Chevy Cruze Offers Best
The 2017 Chevrolet Cruze LT and Premier trims offer standard 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity for up to… seven devices.
As gas guzzlers get wiped out by tightening fuel-economy standards, a new form of gluttony is taking hold.
Automakers are not only embracing the trend, they are counting on in-car connectivity to win over millennials.
The all-new Chevy Cruze is a case in point.
Buyers now get up to two years of free Wi-Fi service on the LT and Premier versions of the Cruze. The cost for the same service on the L and LS versions of the Cruze has been lowered to a bargain rate.
A lot of millennials are going to be the ones buying these cars, and theyre the ones using apps and connectivity very often, says Stefan Cross, a spokesman for General Motors Global Connected Customer Experience. This relatively new division shows just how seriously GM, Chevrolets parent company, is taking in-car connectivity.
Cross says that the Chevy Cruze which competes with the Ford Focus, Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla, among others is the only car in its segment to offer 4G LTE connectivity. The service turns the compact sedan into a mobile hotspot for up to seven devices.
What’s even better is that there is initially no extra cost for the service, as part of what Chevrolet is calling the 24/7 Promise. The Cruze’s two upper trim levels LT and Premier get in-car connectivity as a standard feature for either two years or 24 gigabytes of data, whichever comes first.

Our Privacy Experiment Found That Automakers Collect Data Through Hundreds Of Sensors And An Always
Behind the wheel, its nothing but you, the open road and your car quietly recording your every move.
On a recent drive, a 2017 Chevrolet collected my precise location. It stored my phones ID and the people I called. It judged my acceleration and braking style, beaming back reports to its maker General Motors over an always-on Internet connection.
Cars have become the most sophisticated computers many of us own, filled with hundreds of sensors. Even older models know an awful lot about you. Many copy over personal data as soon as you plug in a smartphone.
But for the thousands you spend to buy a car, the data it produces doesnt belong to you. My Chevys dashboard didnt say what the car was recording. It wasnt in the owners manual. There was no way to download it.
To glimpse my car data, I had to hack my way in.
Were at a turning point for driving surveillance: In the 2020 model year, most new cars sold in the United States will come with built-in Internet connections, including 100 percent of Fords, GMs and BMWs and all but one model Toyota and Volkswagen. Cars are becoming smartphones on wheels, sending and receiving data from apps, insurance firms and pretty much wherever their makers want. Some brands even reserve the right to use the data to track you down if you dont pay your bills.

Its Not Just About Smartphones Tablets And Laptops
Imagine you get that recall notice for your new car. Ugh, what a headache! Now you have to take all that time to check up on it, possibly take it to the dealer for repair, and then theres the added possibility youll have to drive a loaner because youll be without your car while the recall repair is rectified.
With WiFi, this could all change. If its a tech recall that can be repaired through the cars software. With in-car WiFi, the manufacturer can potentially do remote repairs for software or tech-related issues. How cool is that? Edmunds actually informs us that the Tesla Model S already implements this. Plus, Tesla is able to do remote software updates as well.
The immediate thought for why in-car WiFi is useful is for smartphones, tablets, and laptops. There is a high number of individuals out there that prefer to stay near a good WiFi connection for either business- or pleasure-related reasons. WiFi has gotten to the point that its not just a luxuryits a way of life.
Most Americans are used to having everything at their fingertips. An in-car WiFi subscription definitely increases that accessibility. But its not just useful for smartphones, tablets, and laptops. From navigation to remote tech repairs, theres a number of reasons an in-car WiFi subscription can be useful.
