Xfinity Mobile: How Much It Costs

Xfinity Mobile’s prices vary from $15 a month up to $60 a month, depending on the options you choose. Be aware that these do not include taxes and fees, which will vary from state to state.

The bare minimum $15 plan gets you 1GB of data along with unlimited talk and text. If you go beyond 1GB, you are charged an additional $15 per GB. Comcast unfortunately rounds up, so 2.1GB or 2.9GB of data usage would both be treated as 3GB, and cost you $45. This is different from something like , which refunds you for the data that you don’t use.

Xfinity modified By the Gig for new customers that share the same bucket of data across multiple lines. Under the new system, you choose the amount of data you want to use upfront, with reduced costs for the more data you use. Device selection had been the biggest downside to Xfinity Mobile, which largely sells top flagships. However, in recent years Xfinity has broadened its selection of Android devices, and now allows users to bring some of those handsets to the network as well.

iPhone users will notice an up-to-date selection. You can opt for any of the new iPhones the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, You can also save money by buying the iPhone 11, iPhone XRor iPhone SE 2020.

As for Android devices, both the Galaxy S21 and Note 20 models are available at Xfinity. The Pixel 4a 5G is there, too, if you want to spend less on a 5G-ready device. You find a pair of handsets available for less than $200 the Moto E and LG K51.

Device-payment options and flat pricing both compare well to other carriers, so while the need to purchase a new device is inconvenient, you at least have solid options at reasonable prices.

If you prefer to bring your own phone, Xfinity lets iPhone users bring their own device, provided it’s an iPhone 6 or newer. The company is now making an effort to include Android users too, though BYOD service is currently limited to select Samsung and Pixel models.

If you’ve got a supported phone, you send away for a free SIM card from Xfinity, and then sign in once you’ve received it to activate your account.

What Are The Best Xfinity Internet Speeds

How Much Is Unlimited Wifi Xfinity

For the majority, Xfinity internet speed is good news, as 150 Mbps to 250 Mbps are common download speeds available as of October. However, if you live in the right area, you can access Gig services, which have download internet speeds as fast as 2,000 Mbps. You can enter your address on the Xfinity web site to see what speeds and services are available in your area.

The Information We Really Need

Theres other important information missing from my monthly bill, and probably yours, too. Heres the right side of the detail page:

What will my price be in two years time? My current bill builds in promotional offers of varying length and nature that it thinks we have time to analyze like an SAT math question. The contract details Comcast emailed me say my $90 per month plan becomes $110 after two months, which I think might put my actual cost somewhere closer to $147 per month.

Comcast also tacks on variable costs I cant easily predict, like $10 for every 50 GB of data I use over 1.2 TB. These data caps prompted a major outcry when Comcast tried to impose these on customers during the height of pandemic work and school from home.

Also missing from my Comcast statement: a clear description of what Im paying for. My bill says my download speeds are as fast as 800 Mbps. Ive clocked downloads as fast as 940 Mbps, but I often see 450 Mbps during times my neighbors are also drawing on the network. Comcast says on average it delivers 117 percent of advertised speeds.

So what if Internet and cable companies had to just lay out all this critical information up front in a clear and consistent manner? You wouldnt buy a new car without a sticker in the window detailing whats included.

Alas, this idea has a tortured history. In 2017, the FCC scrapped the idea of stricter transparency rules under the leadership of then-Chairman Ajit Pai.

How Does My Gateway Impact Internet Speed

Your home WiFi connection is only as good as your Gateway , since all devices connect through it. We upgrade our smartphones regularly, but often neglect to upgrade the actual devices that connect us to the Internet. A Gateway that’s a generation or two behind may not be able to deliver the fastest broadband speeds to the latest devices. If you have an older Gateway consider an upgrade.

How Much Are Xfinity Internet Plans

Comcast has branded its high-speed internet offerings as Xfinity high-speed internet. The plans vary from state to state. However, to get a sense of the speeds offered, I looked around to various states. Ive seen deals from 25 Mbps for $30 to 200 Mbps for $40. In some areas, you can even get a great deal on Xfinity gigabit internet at $70 per month. You can see whats available in your area using this offer page.

The plans below are generally what you will see around the country. However, the availability of offers may vary by location. Its best to use the link above to see what is available in your area. Generally, the prices you see around the county are listed below:

  • Performance Starter Download speeds up to 25 Mbps around $30 per month
  • Performance Select Download speeds up to 100 Mbps around $35 per month.
  • Performance Pro Download speeds up to 200 Mbps around $40-$50 per month.
  • Blast! Download speeds up to 300 Mbps around $50 $65 per month.
  • Gigabit Download speeds up to 1,000 Mbps around $70 $85 per month.
  • Gigabit Pro Download speeds up to 2,000 Mbps $299.95 per month.

To cut the cord, you need around 6-8 Mbps to stream in HD, so 25 Mbps should be plenty. While there is a monthly download cap of 1.2 TB in much of the county, that should be plenty for most more cutters. That will allow you to stream about 10 hours of HD video a day and still be under the cap.

There are several government programs that provide reduced-cost or free internet for seniors, including the FCCs Lifeline program and ConnectHomeUSA. Our Recommended Cheap Xfinity Internet Plan: Performance Pro Plus

The promotional price Xfinitys charging for its 200 Mbps plan is just too good to pass up. It costs almost half as much per Mbps as the Performance Select plan. And those download speeds should cover you even if you run a home office while your kiddos or partner enjoy some game time or stream Paw Patrol.

If you want to avoid the price hike after a year, we advise calling Xfinity just before your second year is up to see if the representative can offer you any new deals.

Data effective 4/30/2021. Offers and availability vary by location and are subject to change.

The Gigabit plan, on the other hand, offers the most value on a cost-per-Mbps basis. And its 1,000 Mbps speeds can keep a large family connected, plus keep your home security system, smart home hubs, and other devices online too.

But keep in mind that the Gigabit plan requires a two-year contract, and its the most costly plan out of all those Xfinity offers in the Central US. If you dont need that much download speed, you might be better off grabbing a slower plan at a lower monthly cost.

Data effective 4/30/2021. Offers and availability vary by location and are subject to change.*For the first 12 months with a 1-year agreement.

Wed point to Performance Select as a better deal for most families since it gets you 100 Mbps download speeds. Thats enough to support a few people and a handful of devices all using the internet at the same time.

Cable Internet Plans Speed And Data

Xfinity offers several cable internet connections ranging from 25 Mbps 1,000 Mbps. Although performance varies by region, Xfinity delivers some of the most reliably fast speeds in the industry. This dependable performance history means youre more likely to actually experience the download speeds you pay for. Proven reliability is the reason Xfinity was rated the Fastest Internet Service Provider by SpeedTest in 2018.

Even though Xfinity technically has a data cap, most customers will never have to worry about maxing out their internet usage. Xfinity sets its limit at 1 TB per month in most states for context, two people can play online games 24 hours per day for 30 days straight and still have enough data left over to watch all 629 episodes of The Simpsons in high-def. In other words, Xfinity will feel unlimited to most people.

If your household does use more than 1 TB of data per month, Xfinity offers an Unlimited Data Option for an extra $50 per month. However, we recommend signing into your account to monitor your data usage before making the upgrade. You may find 1 TB of data stretches further than you think.

Upload Speeds Are Another Story

While Xfinity offers fast downloads, upload speeds with those 1.2Gbps plans typically top out at around 35Mbps, which is roughly the bare minimum for HD video conferencing. Lower-tier plans offer even less. For instance, if you subscribe to Xfinity’s Blast! plan with download speeds of 300Mbps, your accompanying upload speeds will be capped at just 10Mbps. And no, Comcast isn’t close to clear about this shortcoming on its website, or in any of its advertising for Xfinity service.

Faster upload speeds do seem to be in the works, but it’s unclear when a majority of Xfinity customers should expect to benefit from them.

“Over the years, we have consistently increased both upstream and downstream speeds,” a Comcast spokesperson says, while also pointing to an in-house report showing that downstream traffic was roughly 14 times higher than upstream traffic in 2020.

“We continue to evaluate usage, but nothing to announce about increases to our upstream speeds at this time,” the spokesperson adds.

Xfinity Internet Plans And Pricing Vary Depending On Your Location

Yep, Comcast offers slightly different rates from region to region. Some of the differences are negligible — the gigabit plan in all three regions falls between $70 and $85 per month — but further variance can be found in the introductory 50Mbps plans. In the Central and West regions, you’ll find monthly rates of $20, but Northeast customers see a starting price of $65 for the same speed. What gives?

“We’re a regional provider and market and price our products based on individual local market dynamics,” an Xfinity spokesperson told CNET. “That’s why our costs can be different on a market-by-market basis.”

Not sure that answers the question, though. Sure, a gallon of milk can cost you $3.80 in Connecticut but $3.50 in Colorado — but why is the East Coast’s monthly price of a 50Mbps plan more than three times what a customer in Colorado pays? That’s simply poor value for our friends in the Northeast.

Bring your home up to speed with the latest on automation, security, utilities, networking and more.

In most cases, these varying prices won’t be of much concern or consequence to the average consumer. But considering Xfinity is available in 39 states, it may come into play for those who are moving from one part of the country to another and find themselves face to face with some significant sticker shock.
