Pair Your Echo Device With The Alexa App
In the Alexa app, tap Devices, the plus button in the top-right corner, and then Add Device.
You will be asked what kind of device you would like to set up. Since this is an Amazon Echo, choose the first option under All Devices. However, you can also set up another smart home device, such as a light, plug, switch, camera, lock, or security system.
Next, youll be asked to select the type of Echo device youre setting up, such as an Echo Dot, Echo Buds, Echo Auto, or Echo Frames. Depending on the device you select, the next screen may ask you to confirm which generation Echo device you’re setting up.
The app then takes you through the setup process. Make sure your Echo device is plugged in. Wait for its ring to turn orange and then tap Continue in the app. If the ring doesn’t turn orange, hold down the action button for around 15 seconds until it does.

Connect Your Echo Dot To Wi

Now the app will ask you if your Amazon Echo has an orange light. If you’ve set up your Amazon Echo in the past, it won’t show an orange light anymore. But you can force the Echo into setup mode by holding down the Action button on the unit. Look for a button on your Echo with a single dot on it.
After you hold down the Action button for five to ten seconds, your Echo should show an orange light and Alexa will tell you that it’s in setup mode. Now you can change the network in the app.

Activate Alexas Setup Mode
First, hold down the action button for 5 seconds. It shouldnt be difficult to figure out the action button. Its the one that isnt a microphone mute button and its not the + or buttons that control volume. Thats right, its the little button with a dot in the middle.
Hold that action button down for 5 seconds and the Echo Dot will show an orange light ring around the edge. Alexa will announce that she has entered setup mode. Yeah, I assumed Alexas gender. Fight me.
Wifi Connection May Be Poor
If the sound is cutting out, then you may have a connection issue. Check the strength of your WiFi and try disconnecting and reconnecting to the source. You can disconnect and reconnect by going into the Device Settings tab in the Alexa app followed by tapping the Change tab and selecting the correct network.
Your WiFi source may also be too far out of range. Try moving your device closer to your router to generate a stronger connection.

Add Your Echo Device To A Room
You can then designate a location for your Echo. Using two Echo devices in the same room can be helpful for music playback and similar tasks. Choose the correct room and tap Continue. The app may then ask for the exact location of your new device to help with local weather and traffic.
Select your address and tap Continue or tap Skip to bypass this screen. Your device is now ready to rock and roll. You can watch a short video to explain your Echo device or tap Skip to move on. Follow the same steps if you need to set up more Echo devices.

How To Connect Alexa To Bluetooth
OK, maybe you want to connect your phone to your smart speaker to just, you know, use it as a speaker. Doing so the first time is pretty similar to connecting to Wi-Fi, but it gets easier.
Before connecting any devices, you first need to make sure your phone’s Bluetooth is enabled. To check, go to Settings> Bluetooth. Toggle Bluetooth to on. Now, let’s talk about connecting to another device.
Some Echo devices, like the Echo Frames or Echo Auto, rely on Bluetooth connections to your phone.
First, open the Alexa app and tap Devices, then Echo & Alexa. Select the device you want to use, then tap Bluetooth Devices. Tap Pair A New Device. The Echo will search for devices to pair with and show a list of available devices. Tap the one you want to use. Once paired, you’ll be able to cast the music or podcasts of your choice directly to the smart speaker or display by activating Bluetooth on your phone.
Now that your Bluetooth is on and connected, you can use voice commands to connect in the future. Simply say, “Alexa, connect to ” to connect or “Alexa, disconnect from ” to disconnect.
If you want to connect your Echo to other speakers, you can also do that by scrolling down on the device screen, past Bluetooth Devices and Wi-Fi Network, to Speaker and Stereo Pair/Subwoofer, which allows you to further customize your sound system.

What To Do When Alexa Cant Connect To The Internet
The first thing youll want to verify is that your mobile device is properly connected to the Wi-Fi network you want to use. Either go into the Settings on your phone or long-press the Wi-Fi button in your phones control center to open up the Wi-Fi options. Ensure that youre properly connected and try to reconnect your Echo device through the Alexa App.
If the connection is unsuccessful, make sure that you have entered your password correctly. Because the password is hidden, it is easy to mistype one of the characters.
Simply try reconnecting and re-entering your password before you try any of the troubleshooting tips below. Of course, make sure that your CAP LOCK key isnt engaged as all caps is likely the number one reason people mistype passwords multiple times.

How Can I Use My Echo Dot Without Wi
Without Wi-Fi, you will have to connect Alexa to a hotspot to continue using internet features. The hotspot will use your phones data to secure an internet connection between it and the Echo Dot.
You should now be able to use your Echo Dot as normal.
Note: Keep in mind that hotspot streaming is often slower than Wi-Fi, especially if used for several hours. It may take Alexa longer to respond, and music may take longer to stream or upload.
