As I said in the article above, the routers these days have the feature of using them as a Range Extender.
There are different modes available in the dashboard area of the router, and it is pretty easy to select the model you want.
This is exactly what we are going to do with my TP-link router.
Login to the dashboard of your TP-LINK router The IP address for login into the TP-Link router is http://192.168.0.1/
When you are on the login page, you can type admin in both the ID and password fields .
Note: If you had changed the login password, you can reset the router so that it comes back to default, after that you can use admin in both user id and password field.
Once you are inside the dashboard of the TP-link router, you will find a few options in the left-hand side.
The third option would be operation mode, clicking on which will give you options you want to use your TP link wireless router.
Select the last one which is Range Extender, and follow the instructions.
On the next page, it will show you all the Wi-Fi networks available in your area.
You need to select the one you are using in your home or office, and then enter its password, just like you would do on any device when connecting to your Wi-Fi network.
Once it is done, the TP-link router would reboot once to change the Operational mode.
Ok, that you can plug it into a convenient location where your DeadZone could be eradicated.
How To Setup Tp Link Wifi Extender With Wps Button
This button is found on the back of your router, labeled as WPS. You can complete the setup process by using this button too. Follow the steps written below to setup:
1. Power on your device first.
2. Then, press the power button on the router to get it into active mode.
3. Now, press & hold the WPS button on the router.
4. As soon as you press the button, immediately hit the WiFi button present on the extender. Now, check if the LED light is glowing on the extender.
5. In case it shows connection failure, it means the wireless signal is off.
6. If the wireless signal is visible, then it means that the connection is established.
Now, the TP Link Wifi Extender setup without ethernet cable process is complete. Therefore, you can now place the extender in your desired location.
How To Update Firmware Of ‘tp Link Wifi Extender’
To Update the TP Link Extender firmare, follow these steps :
- Begin with launching any web browser.
- Type this url http://192.168.0.254 and hit Enter. Now, web based settings page will open.
- Here, click on the System Tools option from the menu.
- Next, select Firmware Upgrade from the Drop-Down menu.
- Then, under the online upgrade option, click on the Check for upgrade option.
- This will display new firmware version if its available. Click upgrade to begin the update process.
- Now, wait for 2 minutes for the update process to complete. Once its completed, the range extender will restart automatically.
- Your range extender is now up to date.

How To Setup Tp
Setting up the TP-Link Extender with/without WPS is a really easy process but it does take some time and consideration. So before doing any of the technical stuff, you need to find a place where you want your extender to be.
Placing your Wifi Extender is really simple, but you need to be careful. That is because, in any scenario, the extender signal will be blocked by walls, or get interfered by other waves. So you need to plan carefully about the place you want your extender to be. The simplest way you can do so is by figuring out where exactly you need it.
First, take out your house layout and mark a place you want your signal to be. Now mark the place where the router is located. Now take your extender and place it somewhere in the middle of both places. Also, try to place it into an open area for better range.
Before you start setting up your TP-Link Extender, you must know a few things.
- IP Address
If you dont know about any of it then, open Command Prompt and type in ipconfig/all. Here you will all the required information. Now, type in that IP address in your browser and log in to your router. If you are still unable to log in, contact your Internet service provider for support.
Now, it is time to set your Tp-Link Extender. Basically there are two ways of doing that. But it also depends on your TP-Link Extender. If your Extender has a WPS button follow the second method and if it does not then follow the first one.

Why Do We Need A Tp
When you get an internet/Wifi connection, your internet provider installs a router that connects all of your devices with the internet. So the router basically works as a hub that provides secure internet throughout your home via ethernet and wifi. Now the ethernet is basically a wire that ensures maximum speed with zero obstacles. But the wifi, on the other hand, is a signal.
As we all know, signals are basically waves and waves propagates through different mediums. So by theory, they should be able to connect to a wide range of devices. But waves carry energy, and that energy degrades as we farther we move from the source. Which is why we have an effective range. It is actually the amount of distance a wave or signal can maintain that energy.
And the effective range of a typical wifi network with 2.4 GHz bandwidth is 300 feet. In simple words, if you put a router in the middle of a field you should get a strong wifi signal in a radius of 300 feet. But inside your house, you have walls, doors, furniture, etc. and they absorb waves which drastically reduces their energy by half. This is why your wifi speed varies within your own house.
So in order to solve this issue, TP-Link Extender is needed. It basically amplifies your Wifi connection to the same bandwidth it was before. Which ultimately increases its range and you get strong Wifi connection throughout the house.

We have made clear introductions in the QIG of TL-WA850RE that how to configure TL-WA850RE via WPS. Here well introduce how to configure TL-WA850RE to extend an existing wireless networks coverage via Web GUI.
Before we configure TL-WA850RE, please check the hardware connection:
We strongly suggest you should configure your TL-WA850RE via wired connection. But if you dont have any PC, or your RE product like TL-WA854RE doesnt have any Ethernet port, in this situation you can only configure TL-WA850RE/TL-WA854RE via Wi-Fi.
Now lets begin configuring TL-WA850RE:
1. Log into the Range extender by typing http://tplinkrepeater.net or http://192.168.0.254 in the address bar of the web browser . A little window will pop out and ask you for the username and password. The Username and Password are both admin in lower case by default.
Follow the Quick Setup, and click Next to continue.
2. Select your Region here, and then click Next.
3. Now your TL-WA850RE will scan all the wireless networks around.
Then please choose the wireless network you want to extend, click Next.
4.Now input the password of the wireless network you want to extend, and clickNext.

Problems Connecting Tp Link Extender
Just bought a TP-LINK Wireless WiFi range extender? Having connection problems with it? Well youre not alone. It appears that these WiFi repeaters are causing a lot of people a lot of headaches . and its not just TP-LINK . if you take some time to Google the problem youll find that the majority of WiFi repeaters are difficult to set-up and connect. This page has been created to share our experience with the TP-LINK TL-WA850RE although the advice may very well work with other models.

Youre going to want to match two values between the router you have and the extender you want to buy: the Wi-Fi generation, and the Wi-Fi speed. A wifi Extender is a device that amplifies your Wifi signal by using backhaul. It is a technique that carries a signal from one site to another physically. As the name sounds, A Wifi Repeater basically repeats or clones your routers signal. It is a small device with a wireless antenna that connects to your router and then rebroadcasts its signal. But unlike an Extender where the signal was just amplified, the Repeater clones it. Meaning that any available device in the local area will connect to the Repeater instead of Router.
As cool as it might sound, it also works against it. Since the repeater, broadcasts the signal it receives, it cant amplify the signal. So if the repeater receives a 2Mbps signal it will broadcast 2mbps even though the routers signal is 5mbps. Other than that, the Repeater is also just another router so it faces the same disadvantages aswell.

The RE505X looks identical to the RE603X. In fact, youd have to check the model number on the back of the device to tell the difference. At 4.9 by 2.9 by 1.8 inches , it’s slightly shorter than the Netgear EAX15, that is, until you flip up its two external antennas, which brings the total height to 8.2 inches. The extender has a two-prong plug on the back that’s positioned near the bottom of the enclosure so as not to block access to the second outlet of a two-outlet receptacle.
Four LED status indicators are positioned on the front of the extender. The power LED glows blue when the power is on and blinks green during startup. The signal LED is solid blue when the extender has a good connection to the router, glows solid red when the connection is weak, and is dark when there is no connection. How Range Extenders Work
Wireless network extenders work by receiving and rebroadcasting WiFi signals from your wireless router in order to boost signal in areas that may have been physically blocked before hand. There are two basic types of extenders: antenna based extenders, which basically just add another broadcasting node to your network, and power-line based extenders, which use your homes electrical system as a wired network to transmit wireless signals across obstacles.

In this example, there is a good signal in most of the house, but in the bedrooms on the left side of the plan, there is an only a weak signal or no signal at all. This problem could be resolved by moving the router to a more central location, but that might not be convenient or possible. However, you could place a wireless extender in the hallway leading from the living room to the bedrooms. That would change the signal map to look something like this:
