Check Your Internet Connection
Sometimes Alexa doesnt have any problems connecting to your router, but the connection from the router to your ISP is down. As such, before you start tweaking settings and pressing buttons on your Alexa device, do a quick double-check that your internet connection isnt down.
You can do this by grabbing any other device that’s connected to the network and opening a web browser or using an online service. If you can’t get an internet connection from your other device, the issue is highly likely to do with your network or internet connection as a whole.
Getting Alexa Back Online
While Alexa can be very helpful, it’s only good when it can connect to your Wi-Fi network and get on the internet. Hopefully, with these steps, you’ll find the bugbear within your network and get your Amazon Alexa device back online.
Once Alexa is back on the internet, did you know that there are a bunch of voice commands you can give it to make your life easier? From adjusting the volume via voice control to picking a number within a range of numbers, Alexa can do more than you think.

Youre Connected To The 5ghz Band Of Your Wifi
Its highly likely your WiFi network has two network frequencies: 2.4GHz and 5GHz.
If you open your available WiFI networks, you should see it in your WiFi network list. Lets say, for instance, your WiFi network name is AndrewsHome WiFi Network.
When you check your list of WiFi networks, you should see:
- AndrewsHome WiFi Network.
- AndrewsHome WiFi Network 5.0.
The network name with the 5.0 is another network frequency under the same WiFi router. Now, why do you have two?
Put it this way. Connecting to a 2.4GHz WiFi network means your WiFi signal can reach farther places.
A 5GHz network frequency can reach nearer places only. However, a 5GHz network frequency has a stronger signal or faster WiFi connection.
Why does this matter with your Alexa device?
Lets say your WiFi router is in the living room using a 5GHz frequency. Youre in the kitchen setting up your Alexa device.
With 5GHz frequency, the signal isnt as strong when youre in the kitchen. Why? Because the router is in a separate room.
As a result, your Alexa device might not be able to pick up the WiFi signal of your router.
What to do about it:
If your Alexa device is in a separate room as your router, its better to use 2.4GHz frequency.
Now, there are two ways to solve this problem:
Change Which Band The Alexa Device Connects To
If your router supports broadcasting on the 2.4 and 5GHz bands, you can try changing the device from one band to the other. The 2.4GHz band has a better range, so changing to that one from the 5GHz band may help give the device that extra boost in signal strength that it needs.
Doing this changes depending on what kind of router you have. Sometimes the router will broadcast two different channels, one for each channel. Sometimes the router only broadcasts one channel and intelligently sorts the devices into each band by itself.
Whichever method your dual-band router takes, try switching the Alexa device from one band to the other and see if that fixes your issue.

The Setup-> Wait for the Orange Light Ring screen then shows, as seen next.
Wait for a minute or so. Your Alexa speaker light ring should then glow in a slowly spinning orange-yellow pattern.
If the orange light does not appear after a couple minutes, force setup mode as follows.
The spinning orange blip then appears on the light ring, as seen next.
Do not proceed to the next step until youve heard this announcement, and see this rotating orange glow.
Do not place the smart speaker into WiFi setup mode until the screen above appears on your mobile device. If you do, and then advance the Alexa app to this point, you might confuse the app sometimes. This confusion forces you to set up the speaker as a new device, though you may not have wanted that.
