Stop People From Seeing What You Are Doing On Your Wifi
If you dont want people to see your browsing activity. There are 3 things you need to do
1. When it comes to sensitive matters, dont use the site that doesnt have https. Thankfully, most sites on the Internet support https by default. When you are browsing sites that have https like Reddit, people who are spying on you or even your ISP, may be able to see that you connected to reddit servers IP address, but he cannot see the traffic that youre communicating.
If the site doesnt enforce https by default but still has https as an option, then you can install HTTPS Everywhere. Its a browser extension for Firefox, Chrome, and Opera, that encrypts your communications with many major websites. This will not make the HTTP site to HTTPS, but for some sites that dont enforce https or have partial https on the checkout page, this extension will enforce it the on entire site.
2. Use a VPN. A VPN will bypass router level logging. If you are not sure which VPN to use, here our list of best free VPN apps we recommend at TechWiser
3. Use other sources of the Internet for sensitive web search like creating a hotspot from your smartphone. For an extra layer of protection, you even
There are other ways to monitor your network traffic such as setting up a new firewall, but this could be costly and mostly used by enterprises.
Beef Up Your Network Security
Even if you discover that a neighbor is stealing your Wi-Fi, you don’t need to hunt them down and start a fussyou can just kick them off with a change in router security. Head back to your router’s web interface and find the option to change your password . If you don’t have a password, you absolutely need to start using one, and it needs to be strong. Without a password, your personal information is up for grabs to any amateur hacker that drives by. Choose WPA2 for the password type, since it’s far more difficult to crack than the now-outdated WEP.
If WPS is turned on, you should turn it off, since this feature makes it easier for people to crack your Wi-Fi password. If you want to let guests on your Wi-Fi without giving them access to your devices and information, you can always enable your router’s guest network, or simply wirelessly.
If you already had a passwordmaybe it was weak and easy for your neighbors to guesschanging it to something new should be sufficient to kick them off. Of course, you’ll also have to re-authenticate all of your devices, but you should be able to rest a little easier knowing that all the devices on your network belong to you.

Use Glasswire Pro To See Who Is Connected
Were big fans of the GlassWire firewall and security system, and one of the great features they have in the Pro version is a quick and easy Network view that shows you all the devices connected to your Wi-Fi network.
GlassWire isnt just a firewall, it also has beautiful graphs to show your bandwidth usage, see what applications are connecting to what, and exactly how much bandwidth each application is using. You can get alerts when an application changes something, or when an installer tries to install a new system driver. There are tons of features, too many to list here.
But what makes GlassWire even better for todays topic is that if you go into the Settings panel, you can actually enable alerts whenever a new device tries to connect to your Wi-Fi. Now thats a great feature!
See Who Is Using Your Wi
Whether it’s a problem, or just a preventative measure, it’s always a good idea to be aware of what devices are connecting to your home network.
Sometimes a Wi-Fi password just isn’t enough to keep a neighbor or a stranger from stealing your Internet connection. You may notice that websites, videos, or file transfers aren’t moving as fast as they used to. The problem may not be theft, but simply a case of too many devices trying to share a slow connection.
To get to the root of the issue you can use a free app for Windows. Let’s investigate:
Step 1: Install a copy of Who Is On My WiFi .
Step 2: After opening the app, follow the tutorial steps, which will initiate your first network scan.
You can configure the port range that will be scanned, but if you just want to get started, you don’t need to mess with any settings.
You’ll see a list of IP addresses appear in the app window after a scan. Each will be identified by MAC address and local IP .
Step 3: Start identifying the different devices on your network.
If there are a lot of connections , it might be easiest to turn on Wi-Fi one device at a time so you can label them. To label, just click the Description box on the appropriate line, type a name, and then click Save in the top right-hand corner.
Note that some devices which are hardwired into your network, and as such do not have Wi-Fi support, will show up in the list with “NO” in the Connected column.

Finding The List Of Connected Devices
Youll now need to look for the option in your routers web interface somewhere. Look for a link or button named something like attached devices, connected devices, or DHCP clients. You may find this on the Wi-Fi configuration page, or you may find it on some sort of status page. On some routers, the list of connected devices may be printed on a main status page to save you some clicks.
On many D-Link routers, a list of connected devices is available under Status > Wireless.
On many Netgear routers, youll find the list under Attached Devices in the sidebar.
On many Linksys routers, youll find this option under Status > Local Network > DHCP Clients Table.
On Comcast Xfinity routers, youll find the list under Connected Devices in the sidebar.
How To Share Your Wi
Turning your Mac into a hotspot is possible as long as your device runs on OS X 10.6 and later. You can practically enjoy internet sharing with friends by simply enabling it.
After enabling this setting, you can now enjoy internet sharing with friends.
Check Network Activity With Windows Resource Monitor
While you’re in the Task Manager, to get to another bandwidth troubleshooting tool, click on the Performance tab, and then click on the Open Resource Monitor button at the bottom.
The Resource Monitor is a handy diagnostic tool you can use to check out what’s going on in your computer.
A glance at the Send and Receive columns shows me that Chrome and Spotify currently account for most of my bandwidth. Seeing programs like Chrome, Malwarebytes, and Spotify at the top of the list is fine because these are trustworthy programs. However, if you see an unknown process or application at the top of the list, draining your bandwidth, it is time to investigate.

See Who Is Using Your Wifi On Windows
There are several Windows programs that show you the list of devices connected to your network. The one, I suggest is Wireless Network Watcher by Nirsoft. Like all the other apps from Nirsoft, this one also weight in few KBs and can be executed directly from the .exe file. No installation required.
To get Started, download Wireless Network Watcher from Nirsoft official website . Next, open the zip file and run the .exe in it. If you see a warning from your AntiVirus, ignore it. The app is safe.
The app will display all the connected device, along with their IP and MAC address. It also shows the devices manufacturer name, like Motorola, Apple, etc, which will help you better identify the devices, since remembering MAC address is not convenient.
You can also set up a sound notification. So when a new device connects to your WiFi, you hear a beep sound. To do that, go to options> beep when a new device is connected.
I also tried other popular alternatives like Advance IP scanner and GlassWire, and both in their free version are similar to Wireless Network Watcher. So dont bother trying them. And if you are looking for the advanced option, then try Angry IP Scanner or Wireshark, but they need good technical knowledge.
How To Keep Outsiders Away
If you suspect someone is stealing your Wi-Fi, its a good idea to beef up security . If you dont have a password on your network, add one. If you still use the default router name and password, change it you can do this from the admin page on your router.
To change your password, look for the pre-shared key in your security settings. Changing your wireless password will kick off all current devices , so youll have to reconnect your devices once you have a new password.
To change your router name, locate the Service Set Identifier. This is typically found in the wireless settings menu. Look up more specific instructions for your specific brand of router if necessary.
Lastly, its important to use the strongest wireless network encryption available for consumers. At this time, though WPA2 may be the most commonly used, WPA3 is the strongest. So you may want to start thinking about getting a new one that features WPA3.
If your router is outdated, you might not be able to find support for it anymore. As a result, you may not have access to security features such as these. If this is the case for you, it may be time to consider purchasing a new router .

Can Wifi Be Hacked
Wifi hacking is a common occurrence nowadays. A layman can hack your wep wifi network within a short time using BackTrack. WEP is 0% secure, you can only increase, your attack time by using higher bit encryption. The most important thing here is to secure your system, even if the network gets hacked.
Using Your Routers Admin Portal
This may not be the easiest method to do it however, depending on what router you have you will have to refer to the manual in order to access the admin panel of your router.
Once youre in you will have to check for connected devices or device list or similar option to find the list of users connected to your WiFi. We wouldnt recommend going this way if you are not sure what to do in the admin panel.
You might end up changing something essential from the routers settings. So, unless you know what youre doing, you should avoid this method.
Here are some links for a couple of network equipment manufacturers where you can find manuals and documentation to access the admin panel:

This List Isnt Foolproof
Of course, this list isnt completely perfect. Anyone can set any hostname they want, and its also possible to change your MAC address to spoof other devices. However, this would mean that a device of yours wouldnt be able to connect to the network while another device with a spoofed MAC address was taking its place, as routers generally block two devices with the same MAC address from connecting at the same time. And someone who gained access to your router could set up a static IP configuration to be stealthy.
Ultimately, this isnt the most powerful security feature, or a foolproof way to notice people connected to your network. Its not something you need to check regularly. If there are devices you dont recognize, you can change your Wi-Fi passphrase youre hopefully using WPA2-PSK encryption and that will kick all the devices off until they can provide the new passphrase.
However, even devices you dont recognize may be something you own that you didnt remember. For example, an unknown device could be a Wi-Fi-enabled printer, a Wi-Fi connected speaker system, or your smart TVs built-in Wi-Fi that you never use.
Consult Your Router Settings
If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to recognize all the items on that list, but there may be a few that don’t have enough information. After going through my list, for example, I was left with a couple devices that listed no name and no manufacturer. However, I was able to get a little more information from my router’s web interface.
You can open your router’s management page by typing its IP address in your browser’s address bar. Once there, look for an option that sounds like “Attached Devices” or “Client List.” This will present you with a similar list as Wireless Network Watcher, but the information may be slightly different. After cross-referencing the unknown devices between the two, I found one of them was listed as “AzureWave Technology, Inc” in my router’s interface, but not Wireless Network Watcher. A little Googling revealed that this was my Rachio sprinkler system, so I was able to mark that down and move on.
If you see any other unlabeled devices in the list, check around your house for any internet-connected gadgets you might have missed. I realized that my wasnt listed, so after checking the Alexa app on my phone, I was able to match its MAC address to one of the unlabeled items in Wireless Network Watcher.
