What Is Channel Width
The channel width is the segment that is allotted to each channel in the frequency. In 2.4GHz frequencies, there are 11 channels, and each is allotted 20MHz.
The 11 channels are overlapping, which can create congestion. In each 20MHz segment, there is a limit to how much data can pass through at different speeds. This is why heavy traffic slows your data transfer speeds down.
With 2.4GHz frequencies, you should use 20MHz because there is not too much overlap. If you choose to use 40MHz, it is a wider channel band, but it comes with more interference and will likely have slower speeds.
However, when you use the 5GHz frequency, you can use 40MHz channels. Twenty-four of the 45 channels do not overlap, so you have more options. This makes it less crowded.
The key is to remember that some devices have requirements for the width they need, so if you set your router to only use 80MHz channels and your device requires 40MHz, you wont be able to connect.
Ghz Isnt Always The Standard Wi
So, sometimes the solution is as simple as flipping a switch on your router so that it’s transmitting in 2.4 GHz, and that’s the connection you’re using.
But that’s only available on some routers. Either older routers or kind of higher-end routers that have an actual physical switch, or they’re highly customizable with software that lets you make those changes easily in the background.
A lot of newer mesh systems and supposedly user-friendly systems , don’t let you make that choice. They try to make things easy by taking away certain choices like whether you want to connect via 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz. They just make that decision automatically based on the location of the device you’re usingthey will always default to 5 GHz if they can, and there’s a reason for that.
But you’ll need a workaround if you have a device that requires 2.4 GHz and you can only seem to get a 5 GHz connection.

This guide will show you how to setup 2.4 GHz on your TalkTalk Super Router. If you are uncomfortable doing this yourself then we recommend contacting your network provider or router manufacturer.
Open a web browser and type “192.168.1.1” into the URL bar then press / to load the webpage.
When the page loads, login using the router’s admin credentials.
After logging into your router, click the “Customise my Wireless Network” button.
Locate the “Wireless frequency bands” options and switch both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz on. This will create two different networks on your router. If the settings page doesn’t do it automatically, we recommend simply adding “-5G” onto the end of the 5 GHz network so you can easily differentiate between the two. You will need to use the 2.4 GHz network when setting up a WIFI device. This is the network without “-5G” at the end.
After making these changes we recommend restarting your router so that the new settings can take effect.
Once your router has restarted and you’re able to access the Internet again you can proceed to setup your WIFI device.

The Two Types Of Dual
Dual-band routers are routers which are capable of transmitting and receiving data using both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies, either simultaneously or one at a time.

There are two types of dual-band routers:
Selectable or plain dual-band routers can work on one frequency and allows you to select either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz at a time.

Simultaneous dual-band routers are capable of receiving and transmitting on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies at the same time. This provides two independent and dedicated networks which allows more flexibility and bandwidth.
