How Far Will A Wifi Extender Reach

Actually, how far a WiFi extender will reach that depends on the brand of an extender as there are many types of WiFi extenders in the market. You must read the instructions that come with the extender before purchasing to know the coverage capacity.

But in my experience, you may place a newer model WiFi extender up to 150 feet inside and 300 feet outside. You may change the location of the extender anytime but keep in mind that the extender must be placed within the wireless range of the router.

Why Should I Buy A Wifi Extender

A WiFi extender is an electronic device with two WiFi antennas. One of the two antennas receives a signal from a wireless router, and the other antenna broadcasts it after it has been amplified.

When placed correctly, a WiFi extender can help you extend your WiFi network to cover your entire home.

To know whether youre better off replacing your WiFi router with a more capable model or purchasing one of the wireless extenders mentioned in this article, we recommend you download and use NetSpot to analyze your wireless network.

Do Wifi Range Extenders Improve Speed

The wifi device you use if its far away from your WiFi access point/router, the speed will be slow usually. Because the further away your device is from your router, the slower internet speed you will experience. In this case, the spectrum wifi range extender shortens the distance between the devices you use and your wifi router and thus improves the speed. Thats why you will experience the same speed from anywhere in your home if you use a long-range spectrum wifi extender.

What If An Extender Doesnt Solve My Wi

Aside from grabbing a Wi-Fi extender, there are a few other steps you can take to boost your Wi-Fi signal strength.

Put your router in a central location

You should place your router in an area where its signal can have the easiest possible access to your various devices. Of course, if your Ethernet jack sits in a remote corner of a bedroom, you probably cant move your router. In this case, a Wi-Fi extender is a great solution.

Move your antennas

Try adjusting your routers antennas, so they all point at different angles, with at least one sitting horizontally and another standing perpendicular. Is your router missing external antennas? You can try rotating it to better position its internal antennas instead.

Move obstructions

Position your router so walls, doors, and furniture do not block it. You can also place it high up on a shelf or mount it on a wall to make the signal travel better. And keep it away from your microwave, which will interfere with the routers 2.4 GHz band.

Update your router

Check for any firmware updates for your router. Manufacturers typically publish at least one update . However, if your router is based on the older 802.11b/g/n standards, you shouldupgrade to a router that supports 802.11ac. Take a look at some options in our guide to long-range routers and mesh systems.

How Does A Wifi Boosterwork

In order to understand how a wifi booster works, wemust first examine the concept of radio waves. Radio waves travel throughair, water, and solid objects. For example, radio waves pass through glasswindows and concrete walls. However, radio waves cannot penetrate metal. Therefore, if you wish to transmit information across long distances, youmust either build a tower or install a repeater. Repeaters amplify signalsand send them further away. Towers broadcast directly to consumers who arelocated near the base station.

Should I Turn Off My Wifi At Night

It can be undoubtedly said that WiFi has become more advantageous than ethernet and nowadays the majority of modern internet-connected devices dont even bring out with ethernet ports anymore.

But when you and your family are asleep, then there should be no reason to keep your WiFi routers on basically when theyre not in use.

Besides, you should pay attention to the type of radiation emitting from your router and you must know that its a form of microwave EMF radiation. There is no safe level of EMF in reality and the World Health Organization enlists EMF radiation as a Class 2B carcinogen. In addition, cell phones also emit the same type of radiation.

You may be astonished to hear that this type of radiation has to dominate negative health effects such as cancer and infertility and in favor of it, there are faithfully thousands of high-quality peer-reviewed scientific research.

More terrible is that scientist Dr. Martin Pall believes that WiFi has an important threat to human health and mentioned seven well-established effects of WiFi exposure such as sperm dysfunction, cell damage, and oxidative stress, etc.

So now it can be clearly said that you should turn off your WiFi at night and to turn it off easily you can use the best smart plugs. In the fact that you can easily turn off your Wi-Fi with the help of a smart plug just using a smartphone from anywhere.

How I Tested Them

We’re still working from home here in 2021, so for my second round of at-home range extender tests, I followed the same playbook as I did in 2020. In short, I ran lots and lots and lots of speed tests.

I started out by measuring the average internet speeds in five different parts of my home, a 1,300 square-foot shotgun-style house with an incoming AT& T fiber internet connection of 300Mbps. I started towards the front of the house in the living room, where the router sits, then worked my way back to my home’s back bathroom — a common dead zone whenever I’m running speed tests here. Even with an AX1500 Wi-Fi 6 router running my Wi-Fi network traffic, speeds in that back bathroom dropped to averages of 15Mpbs for a Wi-Fi 5 client device and 50Mbps for a Wi-Fi 6 device . Upload speeds are typically in the single digits and sometimes the connection drops you outright.

Those baseline speeds are represented by the gray columns in the test results below. See how they drop off in that back bathroom?

The top chart shows you the average speeds in each room when I ran my speed tests on a six-year-old laptop with an aging Wi-Fi 5 radio. For the bottom chart, I ran my speed tests on an iPhone 12 Pro with full support for Wi-Fi 6. All of the extenders boosted the back bathroom speeds for both of them, but some did a better job than others.
