Internet Technology Types: Verizon Vs Xfinity
Verizons internet plans dont come with any annual-contract obligations. You can quit any time and you wont be charged an early termination feesimple as that.
Xfinity offers plans with annual contracts. The Gigabit and Gigabit Pro plans require 2year contracts, while most other plans come with 1year contracts.
Canceling Xfinity internet service early means you have to pay $10 for every month left on your bill. You can choose a no-contract arrangement, which in most cases would be great. But with Xfinity it kind of makes no difference with price in the end since the no-contract option costs an extra $10 per month.
Cellular Home Internet: Who Offers It And What You Should Know
Providers like Verizon and T-Mobile are expanding access to cellular home internet in 2021, including plans with 5G. Here’s what to know before signing up.
Access to a reliable home internet connection has become vital for many households, and a growing number of cellular providers are responding to that need by introducing residential internet plans.
Cellular internet works by using a router or hotspot to connect to a provider’s cellular network, just like your cell phone does. The speed you receive depends on how close you are to a network tower, along with network congestion, how many connected devices you have and other factors. Most of the time, those speeds will be a lot lower than what a faster fiber or cable connection would be capable of — but if you lack alternatives like that, then a cellular internet setup might be just what you need.
Since many big telecommunication companies offer these plans — and 5G technology promises to make some of them even better — let’s see how they compare in price, speed and other aspects.
Verizon is expanding its LTE and 5G home internet service in 2021.
Why Does The Label Have Wi
All Fios Network Extenders support dual band Wi-Fi networks with its own default Wi-Fi Names and password. When the Fios Network Extender is connected to your home or business network, the extender receives the Wi-Fi names from your router and replaces its default Wi-Fi Names with those of the router. If you choose not to have your Fios Network Extender replicate the router Wi-Fi Names, you can disable this feature and use the Wi-Fi name and password printed on the Network Extender label. Please refer to the User Guide found for instructions on disabling this feature.

What Is Home Networking
A home network is the connection of two or more computers, printers and other devices in your household. With a home network, your entire household can share one Internet connection with several devices allowing everyone access to the Internet at the same time. You can share access to printers, files, folders, and other hardware devices like gaming systems. There are two types of networks, wired networking and Wi-Fi between each device. You may have both wired and wireless devices in your home.
Use Your Data Plan For A Secure Connection
If youre using Wi-Fi at home, your connections security can be pretty good, depending on how locked down your own network iswhich varies based on your router model and its settings. When using Wi-Fi to get Internet access in your favorite coffee shop or in your hotel room while traveling, though, theres no guarantee youll get a secure connection.
If you need Internet access for another device, such as a laptop, and youre not sure how secure the local Wi-Fi network is, you can take advantage of Verizons secure network using your smartphone or tablet. Activate Verizons mobile hotspot function in your phones settings, and it becomes a Wi-Fi router. When you use your device as a mobile hotspot, all the other devices accessing the Internet through it use your mobile data plan.
When youre streaming lots of movies and music to your tablet or engaging in other data-heavy activities, it makes sense to use Wi-Fi, so long as its available and trustworthy. But if youre checking work email or balancing your checkbook on the road, consider turning off Wi-Fi and using your data plan to protect your privacy.

Verizon’s LTE Home Internet uses the Verizon 4G LTE cellular network to connect to the internet in areas where no other Verizon broadband options — Fios, DSL or 5G Home Internet — are available. Currently, per Verizon, that’s 189 markets in 48 different states.
As for what to expect with LTE Home Internet, customers should expect to see download speeds of 25 to 50Mbps, with approximately 4Mbps upload, per the Verizon LTE FAQs.
Verizon LTE Home Internet is $60 a month, or $40 a month if you have a qualifying, active Verizon wireless plan. The router will cost you $240 upfront or $10 a month for 24 months.
Verizon is actively expanding 5G Home Internet access to new markets across the country.
Verizon’s 5G internet service, which uses ultrawideband 5G technology, is available in 65 markets across the country. It advertises max download speeds of up to 1 gigabit and an average 300Mbps. Upload speeds, however, are not symmetrical, typically topping out around 50Mbps, depending on one’s location.
Verizon 5G Home Internet pricing is $70 a month, or $50 a month for Verizon wireless customers. It’s an all-in price that includes equipment, and like all other Verizon plans, there are no contracts or data caps.
Should You Rent A Router Or Buy Your Own
Its easier just to rent a router since then theres no need for shopping around. But we recommend buying your own if you can. Having your own modem and router could save you some money and give you more flexibility when it comes to speed, security settings, and more.
If you play a lot of video games online, consider investing in a gaming router to get the fastest speeds and cut down on lag. The best gaming router for Verizon Fios is the ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AX11000, which rocks the house with Wi-Fi 6 capability and Quality of Service controls.

When Will Verizon Be Available In My Area
Beyond the services available in its Northeast market, Verizon is also carving out other options for customers across the country. In March, Verizon shared with CNET its goal that its 5G home internet service will be available to 15 million homes within a year. The company also aims to expand its fixed wireless internet services to 30 million homes by the close of 2023.
Final Call: Verizon Vs Xfinity
Verizon is the slam-dunk pick hereits Fios plans give you superb speeds, fast uploads, and no data caps. And you dont even have to sign up for an annual contract. The only catch is that the best Verizon plans might not be available in your area. Its far less widely available than Xfinity.
Were not so keen on Xfinitys contractual obligations or data caps, but those are fairly common things you see from other internet providers and not deal-breakers by any means. You can get excellent speeds at a fair price on an Xfinity plan. And Xfinity has some nice bundling options, too, if youre looking for cable TV.

Can I Get Verizon Fios In My Area
The Verizon Fios service is only available in the Northeast. If you want to determine if Fios is available at your address, you can check the Verizon availability checker.
If you want to explore its other internet options, you can call 800-225-5499, though Verizon advises that the quickest option is to use its Chat now feature on the Verizon contact page.
Bundling Verizon Fios Internet With Tv Service
Verizons Mix and Match packages let you add TV or phone service to any internet plan essentially what most providers do but with a catchy name. Fios TV packages will add anywhere from $56 to $96 to your monthly bill, and come with 125+ to 425+ channels. One unique perk of Verizons TV plans is that it lets you test drive the 425+ channel package for the cheapest price for two months, so you can decide which package is right for you.
Additionally, Verizon has partnered with YouTube TV to add the live TV streaming service to your internet plan. It costs $64.99/mo. and includes over 85 channels. That said, this is the exact same price as it costs to subscribe to YouTube TV on its own, so theres no real benefit to adding it to your Verizon Fios internet plan.

**For the first 12 months with a 1-year agreement.
For the first 24 months with a 1-year agreement.
With a 2-year agreement.
Xfinitys plans vary in name and price based on where you are, which explains why this list is so long. Most of these plans have excellent speeds and fair prices. The only drawback is that you wont get the same bouquet of perks as you would on Verizon Fios plans.
The upload speeds will be slower and youll have a 1.2 TB data cap. Thats not ideal, but its also not necessarily a deal-breakermost internet users wont notice sluggish upload speeds anyway and 1.2 TB is still a lot of data.
Want to see if youre getting the speeds youre paying for? Take our speed test to find out.
Run the test during the morning, afternoon, and evening to see if there are any differences. Some internet plans slow down at night during peak usage hours.
Wed be remiss not to mention Xfinitys Gigabit Pro plan, which maxes out at a ridiculously fast 2,000 Mbps. Honestly, thats way more speed than the majority of internet users need. And its prohibitively expensive. And availability is extremely limited, so dont get too distracted with that one.
