Before Leaving A Comment
I welcome all friendly, well written, legible, and thought out comments or questions that you might have about your cell phone BUT before posting a question about your phone or wireless network often the best place to start getting answers to those types of questions is by referring to your devices owners manual, contacting your devices manufacture, or referring to and using your favorite online search engine.
It would be impossible for me to keep up or even respond to every question about how to access the settings on specific types of routers or modems or smartphones. If you need help accessing your networks router or locating or adjusting one of the settings mentioned in this article then I recommend performing a search online for that specific information as opposed to asking for it in the comment section below. I do not know every setting of every router ever made and answering network questions is not my specialty and certainly not the focus of this site and you will probably receive a faster and better answer about specific network questions on another website that specializes in wireless networking.
That being said I look forward to your comments, and if you do have a question make sure to provide as much information as you can in order for me to assist you properly. Including the type of phone you have and the network devices you are trying to connect to. The more information you provide the more likely it will be that I can assist you in resolving your issue.
Slow Or No Internet Access In Certain Rooms
Wi-Fi is radio waves, meaning your Wi-Fi router broadcasts in all directions from a central location. If your router is in a far corner of your house, then youre covering a great deal of the outside world unnecessarily. If you can, move your router to a more centralized location. The closer you can put your router to the center of your coverage area, the better reception will be throughout your house.
If you have external antennas, you can try adjusting those, too. Alternating between fully vertical and fully horizontal positions can help reach in multiple directions.
If you live in an apartment building, other routers might be interfering with yours. Free software, like NetSpot on Mac and Windows or Wi-Fi Analyzer for Android, can show you every wireless network nearby, and what channel theyre using. If your router overlaps with nearby networks in particular rooms, consider switching to a less congested channel.
If none of that helps, your home might be too much for one router to handle. Consider purchasing a wireless repeater or setting up an old router to serve as one to extend the range of your main router.

Check 8021x Eap Issues
If RADIUS is working but your Android Wi-Fi client’s connect requests are rejected, look for an 802.1X Extensible Authentication Protocol problem. Your client must support one of the EAP types required by your RADIUS server and must supply a valid login.
- If your RADIUS server requires EAP-TTLS or PEAP, set the client’s Security field to 802.1x EAP, select EAP method TTLS or PEAP when prompted, choose a phase 2 authentication , and enter your username and password. MSCHAPv2 is commonly used with passwords GTC is used for token authentication. For most networks, the anonymous identity field can be left blank. You may optionally choose a CA certificate to authenticate the RADIUS server.
- If your RADIUS server requires EAP-TLS, set the client’s Security field to 802.1x EAP, select EAP method TLS when prompted, enter your username and select a user certificate from the pull-down list.
If the only entry in the list is unspecified, you must first add a certificate file to your device. To do so, copy a certificate to a storage location accessible from your device . Hint: Email the file to yourself and save it to your device, or upload the file onto Google Drive.

One Device Cant Connect To The Wi
Sometimes you run into a Wi-Fi issue with one particular device. Its probably just a momentary network issue. Try turning off the Wi-Fi on your device, then re-enabling it. If that doesnt work, do the same with your router by unplugging it and then plugging it back in 30 seconds later.
If that doesnt help, or if the problem reoccurs, consider deleting your current network from the list of saved networks on your device, then reconnect again.
If youre running Windows 10, search for wifi troubleshooting and open the result, which should be Identify and Repair Network Issues. That will go through a series of diagnostics that may restore connectivity. On MacOS, you can run Wireless Diagnostics. Hold the Options key and click the AirPort icon on the menu bar. Find Open Wireless Diagnostics, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
If none of that works, consider rebooting the device.

See If It’s A Problem With Your Modem Or Your Isp
Make sure its not a problem with your cable modem or Internet service provider . If it is, contact your ISP.
Select the Start button, start typing cmd, right-click Command Prompt in the list, select Run as Administrator, and then select Yes.
At the command prompt, type ipconfig.Look for the IP address listed next to Default gateway. Write down that address if you need to. For example, 192.168.1.1.
At the prompt, type ping < Default gateway> and press Enter. For example, type ping 192.168.1.1 and press Enter.The result should be something like this:Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=5ms TTL=64Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=5ms TTL=64Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=5ms TTL=64Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=5ms TTL=64Ping statistics for 192.168.1.1: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 , Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 4ms, Maximum = 5ms, Average = 4ms
If the ping is successful and you see results similar to the results above, but you cant connect to the Internet on your PC, there may be a problem with your modem or Internet service provider .

When Trying To Connect To Wi
This issue can happen after upgrading as well, and can be one of the most confusing Wi-Fi issues to have. You can hold your phone right next to the wireless modem or router and get no signal. Sometimes you can even establish a Wi-Fi connection when your right next to your router but as soon as you create a little distance between your cell phone and the wireless source your phone shows an Out of range or Not in range or Not in range, remembered error message. A very annoying issue that can be difficult to fix but this article has some suggestions for this issue as well.
Is Your Software And Hardware Up
It can be hard to figure out if your software or hardware is up-to-date, especially if you find yourself unable to go online. For software, its best and easiest to install adriver updater, which will automatically check your drivers and install any available updates. But if you cant get online, or the issue is with outdated hardware, youll need to consult an expert who can get you the parts you need or install the drivers offline.
The same applies for router issues: while its possible to manually update your routers firmware , you still might need to call your ISP or an expert if you cant go online to get those firmware updates, or if the issue is with your hardware.

Solution 1: Date And Time
Those who frequently travel, especially between time zones, may notice problems with their Wi-Fi because the date and time of your android smartphone plays an important role. It must match the date and time on the router that you are trying to connect to, or else you may not establish a connection.
Ensure that your phones date and time reflect the date and time of the location you are at. You can change the details by navigating to your phones Settings menu and then tapping on Date and Time. Next, you must change the date and time to your current location and then connect to the Wi-Fi.
Check The Ssid And Password
The SSID is the name of the Wi-Fi network. Normally, this name is stored on any device that previously connected to it, but if it’s not saved any longer, then your phone or other wireless devices will not automatically connect to it.
Check the SSID that the device is trying to connect to and make sure it’s the right one for the network you need access to. For example, if the SSID for the network at your school is called “SchoolGuest,” be sure to choose that SSID from the list and not a different one that you don’t have access to.
Some SSIDs are hidden, so if that’s the case, you must manually enter the SSID information, instead of just selecting it from a list of available networks.
The SSID is only part of what’s required to connect to a network. If the connection fails when you try, and you know the SSID is right, double-check the password to ensure that it matches the password configured on the router. You might need to speak with the network administrator to get this.
If you reset the router, it may not have Wi-Fi turned on anymore, in which case you’ll need to turn it back on. If the reset router isbroadcasting Wi-Fi, it’s no longer using the previous SSID you used.

Compare Your Speed With The Vpn
Next, test your internet speed somewhere like Fast.com or Speedtest.net. Compare the results to the same test when your VPN is active. The use of any VPN should cut your speed considerably, so the speed tests should show a discrepancy, with the VPN-active speed notably slower than the VPN-inactive speed. But a VPN also hides the IP address that providers use to identify you, so if your speed test with the VPN is faster than without the VPN, that may mean your ISP is targeting your IP address for throttling.
Try A Different Ethernet Cable
If you have a spare Ethernet cable, swap it out with the one currently plugged into your modem and router and see if it makes a difference. Cables dont last forever, and it could be that your current Ethernet cable has kicked the bucket and needs to be replaced.
Cables can also be damaged by pets or pests, so make sure your dog isnt chewing on it and didnt get hurt.
If youre experiencing repeated slowdowns and outages, you may have an internet plan thats too slow. Take our How much speed do I need? test to see if youre paying for enough internet bandwidth to deliver the goods.

How To Solve The Dreaded Wi
If you’ve been experiencing the dreaded “!” error in your Android Lollipop Wi-Fi connections, Jack Wallen has a solution that will fix the issue.
Editor’s note on March 18, 2019: This article was first published in October 2015. Since then, we have added a disclaimer and updated the related resources.
If you’re running Android Lollipop, and you rely on Wi-Fi, you have probably witnessed the dreaded “!” showing up in your Wi-Fi notification. What does it mean? How do you solve it? The possible solutions are many, but this is the only solution I’ve found that actually works. A caveat to this solution is that it requires you have a bit of information about the wireless network you’re having issues with.
Why is this happening? The best explanation that Google offers is that there’s a problem communicating with the wireless network. Yeah, I know that’s not a viable answer.
To solve this issue, we’re going to set a static IP address for that particular Wi-Fi address. This means that you’ll need to know an available address on the LAN, the gateway address, and the DNS address for the network. Note: You can use Google’s default DNS addresses of 220.127.116.11 and 18.104.22.168.
This is not the best solution, but it works. Here’s what you need to do.
Setting a static address for a Wi-Fi network on a Verizon-branded Nexus 7.
Make Sure There Is Not An Internet Outage In Your Area
If you are still able to get online with one device, you should check to see if there is an internet outage in your area. This will let you know if the problem is with your network, or if this is an issue you cant resolve on your own.
All you have to do is search for outage map and the name of your internet service provider , such as Comcast, Verizon, or Spectrum. You might also want to call your ISP to confirm whether there is an outage in your area and ask for any help to get your WiFi working again.
