Look at the results. If theres a reply and no data loss, you have a connection with the router. You should focus on solutions that address the modem and Internet connection problems.

If theres no reply, then your laptop isnt connecting to the router at all, and you should prioritize working on the computer and finding whats preventing it.

Checks You Should Do On The Router

Why does my HP laptop not connect to WiFi

Most of the 5G connection failure errors are due to a bad router configuration, or that it does not directly support simultaneous dual band. We must remember that, to enter the router, we must do it with a web browser by putting the default gateway of the router in the address bar. How can we find out which is the default gateway ? We go to Start and put cmd and press enter, to go directly to the Windows command prompt.

Once here, we must execute the following command and press enter: ipconfig. When we have executed this command, Default gateway will appear followed by an IP address, normally the default gateway on routers is:,,, and 192.168. 178.1, but the best thing is that you see what IP you have, and with the web browser you put this in the address bar:

Your Firewall Prevents Connecting To The Network

Windows comes with a built-in firewall app. It either permits or blocks incoming and outgoing traffic to help protect you against malicious content. However, sometimes, it can block web access for your entire computer.

Obviously, this is not the default behavior. Perhaps you accidentally changed a setting without realizing, or a rogue app overrode your existing rules.

Thankfully, whatever the cause, it’s easy to fix. The solution below works for both the native firewall app as well as any third-party firewall apps you’re running:

  • Open the Start Menu and type Command Prompt.
  • Right-click on the top link and select Run as administrator.
  • Type netsh advfirewall set allprofiles state off and press Enter.
  • Test whether internet access is now working.
  • To turn your firewalls back on, return to Command Prompt and type netsh advfirewall set allprofiles state on.

    Run The Windows Troubleshooter

  • Right-click on the Wi-Fi icon in the bottom and click Troubleshoot problems.
  • Follow the instructions until the troubleshooter resolves the problem or at least diagnose it.
  • Close the troubleshooter.
  • Windows Troubleshooter is commonly overlooked when issues emerge. Now, one might say that the resolution rates arent exactly sky-high.

However, theres also the identifying of the error which might come in handy with the later steps.

Sometimes its the IP conflict, sometimes its the Wi-Fi radio , SSID or maybe the ISP is having problems.

Of course, in the scenario when even calculators can connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi and laptop cant, the possible culprits are fairly limited.

So, dont avoid unified Troubleshooters and give them a try before you move to more adaptable solutions. In case youre still unable to connect, move down through the list.

    Culprit #: The Router

In order to identify any router problems, you can first connect other mobile devices to the WiFi and see if its working as normal. A cell phone or tablet will do. If the Internet is working as intended for these devices, then the problem is specifically attributed to the original device and its WiFi adapter. However, should the Internet not work with any of the additional devices, then the problem is most likely with either the router or the Internet connection.

First thing you should do to attempt a router fix is to restart it. This will flush all caches and fix any potential network or software problems that could be hindering connectivity. If your modem is separate from the router, make sure to restart both.

  • Turn off both the router and modem
  • Wait approximately 30 seconds. Counting down in your head could head.
  • Turn on the modem first and wait an additional 60 seconds before booting up the router.
  • Wait to see if all appropriate lights are lit and then proceed to check if you can now connect.
  • This solution will often fix the bulk of router issues and get your WiFi back on track. If this solution doesnt work

Is My Wifi Card Compatible With The Channel Used By The Router

Laptop Wont Connect To Wifi Windows 10 Fix

In the event that our card is compatible with WiFi 5, but we still do not see the WiFi network, check the routers broadcast channel, and make sure that you are broadcasting on the low channels 36, 40, 44 and 48. Such And as we have explained previously, there are WiFi cards that are compatible with 5G, but only for the low channels, not being compatible for channels 100, 104, 108 and 112, therefore, you must enter your router and look at which channel is broadcasting.

You can also use programs such as WiFi Analyzer for Android or the Acrylic WiFi Home program to see the WiFi channels, both 2.4G and 5G, but this must be used on a computer that is capable of seeing the WiFi network, because if We use it on the computer that cannot connect to the 5G network, we will still not see the WiFi network and without knowing which channel it is broadcasting on.

Consider Distance And Interference Change Channel

Wi-Fi is handy, but it isnt perfect. Wi-Fis radio signal follows the inverse square law, which means the strength of the signal decreases exponentially as you increase the distance between yourself and the router. If you do have a signal strength problem, you can move closer to the router or consider installing a larger antenna, more powerful router, or a Wi-Fi repeater or range-extender at some point in your network.

Also, you might consider investigating potential radio interference from devices such as microwaves or other gadgets that use similar frequencies . In those cases, you can either disable the interfering devices or route around them with a wired connection to a second Wi-Fi access point on the other side of the interfering device.

If you suspect interference, you can try to set your Wi-Fi to use a different channel, which might avoid certain types of interferenceespecially with other nearby Wi-Fi networks .

Channels: Frequency bands are divided into numbered channels. In the U.S., 2.4GHz has 11 available overlapping channels numbered 1 to 11, while 5GHz has about two dozen scattered across a broader range from 36 to 165. They run in groups for historic reasons in how the bandwidth was granted for unlicensed use to everyone.

Enable Ssid Broadcast For Your Wifi

Why laptop is not connecting to WiFi:

Service Set Identifier broadcast is what makes your WiFi network visible to your network adapter. Once you disable SSID broadcast, your WiFi network wont show up in the list.

Tips: Many people disable SSID broadcast for security concerns. By doing this, they can hide the WiFi network, so the network name wont be seen by others. But the first time to connect to the WiFi network, youll have to configure the profile settings manually, including the network name and security mode. After making the initial connection, devices can remember these settings and will not need to be specially configured again.

You can try the instructions below to enable your SSID broadcast. The specific interface may vary from different computers. Here we take TP-link WiFi router as an example:

    1) Go and see the IP address, username and password on your wireless router.

    2) Open your browser on PC or mobile phone .

    3) Type the IP address in your browser, and press Enter.

    4) Type your User name and Password, then click Login.

    5) Go to Wireless> Wireless Settings. Check the box next to Enable SSID broadcast, and click Save.

    7) Restart your PC and reconnect to your WiFi network.

    Antivirus Or Other Security App

Antivirus software are known to cause internet problems in the past. Disable your antivirus and other security apps like malware temporarily and check if it resolves the Wi-Fi connected but no internet error. If it does, you know where to look next. If not then continue with the next step.

At this point, I would also recommend you to run a complete or full antivirus and Malwarebytes scan to make sure you are not infected with something dangerous thats causing this error.

Use 24 Ghz Instead Of 5 Ghz Band On Dual

  • Press Windows + S, type Control, and open Control Panel.
  • From the Category view, open Network and Internet.
  • Open Network and Sharing Center.
  • Select Change adapter settings from the left pane.
  • Right-click on your Wireless adapter and open Properties.
  • Click on the Configure button.
  • Select the Advanced tab.
  • In the left pane, scroll to WZC IBSS Number Channel.
  • From the right drop-down menu, choose channels 1, 6, or 11.
  • Confirm changes.
  • The story of two bands is rather simple. The 5 GHz band is much better in almost every regard. Its faster, its less crowded since most other non-Wi-Fi devices use 2.4 GHz, its more stable.

However, there are two things that are better with 2.4 GHz. Firstly, its signal goes further and easier brakes trough walls. Second, it supports older devices with older wireless standards.

So, if all devices in your household are connected on 5 GHz and working well, make sure to try to connect to 2.4 GHz band with your laptop.

Also, if you have adequate software, make sure to choose channels 1, 6, or 11. They dont overlap with each other. You can do it also in the Advanced adapters settings.

    Unhide And Rename The Ssid

Expert Tip: Some PC issues are hard to tackle, especially when it comes to corrupted repositories or missing Windows files. If you are having troubles fixing an error, your system may be partially broken. We recommend installing Restoro, a tool that will scan your machine and identify what the fault is. to download and start repairing.

With this, were mildly stranding in the strange area. For some reason, users werent able to connect to networks with unusual names, meaning that you might reconsider renaming them to something less bloated.

So, make sure to use only standard alphanumerical symbols, without emoticons and Unicode characters in the SSID name, and try again.

Even though other devices locate it clearly, with the laptop as an only exception, give it a try.

Furthermore, sometimes the hidden SSID that needs to be manually inserted while connecting can also be an issue. Make it visible temporarily and try again.

That resolved the issue for some users and they were able to connect without difficulties.
