Why Is My Wifi Not Working On My Phone

The Airplane Mode Hack

How To FIX iPhone Wifi Greyed Out / Not Working! (2021)

First up, try airplane mode. Often, certain apps require a stable internet connection for optimum performance. However, if your internet connection is unstable, the apps may not be able to work correctly.

So, whether its the Android or iOS device, try turning on the airplane mode. Then, leave the phone in the same mode for a few seconds and then turn it off.

When you turn off the airplane mode, the phone will connect to the wifi network automatically. This time, the connection may be more stable, and you may run certain apps on the wifi.

What To Do If The Wi

Slow connections can be very annoying. None of us enjoy a Wi-Fi connection that makes us wait too long to open the websites or watch a video. Many providers blame it on the peak hours when numerous people connect to Wi-Fi at the same time. It is caused by Wi-Fi channels where most of the users are on the same Wi-Fi channel simultaneously.

An easy way to resolve a problem like this is by using the Wi-Fi Analyzer app. It is available on the Google Play Store, and downloading and installing the app is relatively easy. It will analyze the network and will help you check which channel will be best for you.

  • Most people solved the issue by updating their device or the modem firmware.
  • In most cases, you just need a simple router restart. You may attempt to do a hard restart of the modem. The most modem operates like this :
    • Press and hold the reset button for 10 seconds. For some modems, youll need to use a needle and insert inside a bit of hold.
    • Unplug the modem from the outlet and wait for at least 5 mins.
    • Replug

It will not work if you are trying to connect to the modem from a remote location or behind discrete walls. Note that it is all about radio waves that travel in a uniform/ straight path. If two or more walls are blocking you, then that can cause interference with your waves.

    Another slow Wi-Fi Workaround

Use 24 Ghz Instead Of 5 Ghz Band On Dual

  • Press Windows + S, type Control, and open Control Panel.
  • From the Category view, open Network and Internet.
  • Open Network and Sharing Center.
  • Select Change adapter settings from the left pane.
  • Right-click on your Wireless adapter and open Properties.
  • Click on the Configure button.
  • Select the Advanced tab.
  • In the left pane, scroll to WZC IBSS Number Channel.
  • From the right drop-down menu, choose channels 1, 6, or 11.
  • Confirm changes.
  • The story of two bands is rather simple. The 5 GHz band is much better in almost every regard. Its faster, its less crowded since most other non-Wi-Fi devices use 2.4 GHz, its more stable.

However, there are two things that are better with 2.4 GHz. Firstly, its signal goes further and easier brakes trough walls. Second, it supports older devices with older wireless standards.

So, if all devices in your household are connected on 5 GHz and working well, make sure to try to connect to 2.4 GHz band with your laptop.

Also, if you have adequate software, make sure to choose channels 1, 6, or 11. They dont overlap with each other. You can do it also in the Advanced adapters settings.

When Trying To Connect To Wi

This issue can happen after upgrading as well, and can be one of the most confusing Wi-Fi issues to have. You can hold your phone right next to the wireless modem or router and get no signal. Sometimes you can even establish a Wi-Fi connection when your right next to your router but as soon as you create a little distance between your cell phone and the wireless source your phone shows an Out of range or Not in range or Not in range, remembered error message. A very annoying issue that can be difficult to fix but this article has some suggestions for this issue as well.

    See Whos Using Your Wi

There may be a user on your Wi-Fi network whos hogging the bandwidth or creating other connectivity problems.

To find out whos on your network, log in to your routers interface and look for a list labeled with a term like DHCP clients, connected devices, or attached devices. Usually the name of the devices being used are included on the list .

You can then figure out whos using the Wi-Fi and ask everyone in your household if theyre doing anything thats taking up too much internet speed.

Many routers let you kick devices off the Wi-Fi, so go ahead and give a user the boot if you dont know them or if theyre causing problems. You can also change the Wi-Fi password so they cant get back on.

Security Settings And Protocols Wep Vs Wpa

If your router or modem is still using a WEP encryption instead of the more secure WPA or the even better WPA2 encryption then not only do I recommend that you change your wireless router/modem from WEP to WPA1 or WPA2 to try to fix the Wi-Fi connection with your phone but I recommend you change it to better secure your wireless network.

WEP is an older security protocol that isnt only outdated but not a very secure method of encryption, so changing this setting to a more current encryption type like the WPA2 encryption isnt going to be a bad idea one way or the other.

Iphone Wifi Switch Won’t Turn On

Rated by 8 reviewers. Categories: iPhone |

Recently I helped a customer fix a software glitch with their iPhone wifi, where the wifi switch often wouldn’t turn on. Or, the wifi would appear to be on and connected to the network on the main page of the settings app, but tapping wifi would reveal that the wifi was actually off. Originally he suspected that the issue was hardware, until the wifi problem persisted after upgrading to a new iPhone XS.

Here’s his description of the problem, to help see if it applies to you:

First we tried some of the usual tricks, which I recommend you try first if you’re having iPhone wifi glitches:

    • Open the Settings app, and turn on Airplane Mode. Wait 10 seconds, and then turn Airplane Mode off.

    • Open the Settings app > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will purge your existing saved wifi networks and passwords and your other saved wifi settings.

    • We’re seen a few cases where a full settings reset will fix the wifi. To try this, open the Settings app and choose General > Reset > Reset Settings. If this works for you, please leave a note in the comments!

After trying these surface fixes, I took a look at the debugging logs from his iPhone while trying to connect to a wifi network, and saw that the wifi service was running out of memory. “wifid”, the wifi daemon program/service was constantly crashing in the background due to the memory problem.

How To Fix These Authentication Wifi Problems

  • Double-check your Wi-Fi password. Make sure wifi is visible while entering to limit any mistakes possible.
  • In most cases, your router will have a default SSID name, such as Linksys, Netgear. If you have more than two networks with the same SSID, it may cause problems. On the other hand, some ISP recommends not to change the SSID. It can cause authentication errors and other wi-fi issues. The best thing to do is reset the SSID name to default and consider not sharing a similar name.
  • Within your router settings, consider turning this to Off or disabled Mac address filtering can restrict Mac addresses to connect to a Wi-Fi network. If this feature is on, double-check to see if your address is enabled.
  • Make sure you have the proper Wireless security settings ETC. These are particular types of authentication and encryption placed by your ISP. These provide some levels of security and privacy. Consider trying between these and see which one works best for you. You can also use apps such as Fix Wifi and the Wifi App.
  • Toggle between the Radio mode. 5 GHz OR 2.4 GHz. 802.11a/b/g/n is a standard-setting for the most wireless communication network.
  • Changing the channel can not only make your Wi-Fi faster but will also limit interference, authentication errors, and IP conflict issues. By downloading the Wi-fi app, you can easily change your channel, or it can be done within your router backend.

      Wi

I welcome all friendly, well written, legible, and thought out comments or questions that you might have about your cell phone BUT before posting a question about your phone or wireless network often the best place to start getting answers to those types of questions is by referring to your devices owners manual, contacting your devices manufacture, or referring to and using your favorite online search engine.

It would be impossible for me to keep up or even respond to every question about how to access the settings on specific types of routers or modems or smartphones. If you need help accessing your networks router or locating or adjusting one of the settings mentioned in this article then I recommend performing a search online for that specific information as opposed to asking for it in the comment section below. I do not know every setting of every router ever made and answering network questions is not my specialty and certainly not the focus of this site and you will probably receive a faster and better answer about specific network questions on another website that specializes in wireless networking.

That being said I look forward to your comments, and if you do have a question make sure to provide as much information as you can in order for me to assist you properly. Including the type of phone you have and the network devices you are trying to connect to. The more information you provide the more likely it will be that I can assist you in resolving your issue.
